Yue Qingchen watched as Green Qi's car finally disappeared into the evening traffic. Turning to look at the unusually emotional Xue Yiyang beside her, she couldn't help but smile slightly. "You and Director Gu must not just be classmates, right?" His expression resembled that of a lovesick old flame. However, Gu Lvq Qi really seemed to attract admirers; despite the previous scandals that had made headlines and the accident involving the building she designed, there were still men who liked her.
Xue Yiyang glanced at her, seemingly recalling who she was. Although they moved in the same circles, he rarely went out, so he had only seen her a couple of times. He tended to ignore people and matters he didn't care about, so he didn't respond and drove away. Yue Qingchen was infuriated by his lack of acknowledgment and stomped her feet in frustration.
The next day, just before quitting time, Green Qi received a local delivery. After checking it for any issues, she opened it and was momentarily stunned to find a box full of mushrooms inside.
Looking at the recipient's name on the delivery slip, it was indeed addressed to her, but she hadn't ordered any of these items!
At that moment, her phone on the desk rang. She glanced at the caller ID and answered it. On the other end, Mu Tongzi's calm voice came through, "Are you getting ready to leave work?"
"Yeah, almost done. Is there something up?" She frowned slightly at the box of mushrooms. "Did you send this box of mushrooms via local delivery?"
"Yes, I just got back from a business trip to F City. I heard that the mushrooms there are quite tasty, so I brought a box back to try. You like eating them, right? So you should come back to One Pinnacle Mansion tonight!"
"..." She seemed to have mentioned liking them before, but that was during a casual viewing of a food show; she hadn't expected him to remember what she said.
"I can buy them and cook them at home if I want to eat them. If you want some, you can have the chefs at your hotel make them for you; they would definitely cook them better than I could!"
Sending the delivery to her place was clearly an attempt to make her feel obligated.
"Their cooking doesn't have the taste of home-cooked meals; it's not appetizing. I just got back from a business trip and want to eat something simple and rest well; I've been too tired these past few days! Be good and prepare dinner for me when I get back; I'll return quickly after my meeting!"
These past few days had indeed been exhausting. A group of people rushed to finish their work. He had initially planned to rest for a night and return the next day but worried that she might be concerned about how this incident would affect the competition; thus, he had his secretary change his flight back.
"Oh, got it!" After hanging up the phone, she tidied up the documents on her desk, glanced at the time, and prepared to leave work.
After exchanging a few words with IKEA, Green Qi walked to the elevator with a bag of mushrooms and happened to see Liu Xinran and Yue Qingchen waiting for the elevator as well. She paused and politely nodded.
When the elevator arrived, the three entered. Green Qi looked up at her reflection in the elevator mirror; Yue Qingchen wore a somewhat smug and proud smile, while Liu Xinran standing beside her appeared much more humble, lacking her usual arrogance.
"Director Gu leaves work really early! Speaking of which, you should be quite busy, especially with the design drawings having issues and preparing for the Design Competition. But Director Gu should be able to relax soon!"
"The investigation into the cause of the incident will be out soon. Whether it's my fault will be clear shortly. Thank you for your concern, Vice President Yue!" Although she disliked Yue Qingchen's gloating, what could she do? After all, she was her subordinate! Even if Yue Qingchen slapped her, she would probably just have to endure it!
"I hope it's not Director Gu's fault; otherwise, Director Gu won't be able to make it in the architecture industry anymore!"
"Thank you for your kind words, Vice President Yue." Standing at the back, Green Qi looked up at the descending numbers but was preoccupied with thoughts about how to cook those mushrooms for dinner.
