Green Qi waved her hand and lowered her head to continue playing the game on her iPad.
Jiang Chengmu had just left when Yan Zili pushed the door open and walked in. "What happened with Jiang Chengmu? I just saw him looking so dejected that I couldn't bring myself to say anything to him."
"He's probably feeling guilty seeing me like this. Anyway, it has nothing to do with me. Let's check out of the hospital tonight to avoid running into Jiang Chengmu and Mu Tongzi tomorrow. It would be a hassle if we can't explain things clearly!"
"Okay!"
Not long after Jiang Chengmu left, Xue Yiyang came in holding a fruit basket. Since he was in the same hospital as his mother, Green Qi wasn't surprised he found her here; she just didn't have the mood to deal with him at all.
Glancing at the man who entered, Yan Zili also wore a displeased expression. "How come one leaves and another comes? It's making Qiqi look like she has a terminal illness."
"Zili..." Green Qi shot her a look, then put down her iPad and turned to Xue Yiyang. His face looked rather bad, likely because he hadn't rested well while taking care of his mother these past few days.
"I'm fine; you don't need to waste your time coming to see me. You should go back and take care of your mother!"
"She just rested, so I came up to check on you." Setting down the fruit basket, he glanced at Yan Zili, who was turning to leave, and forced an awkward smile before pulling up a chair to sit down. "How are you feeling?"
He had just learned from his secretary about what happened; it was Jiang Chengmu's woman who had hurt her this badly. As a husband, Jiang Chengmu seemed to be failing in his duties.
"I'm okay; I can be discharged tomorrow." After a pause, she looked up at him. "What happened to your mother?"
"She fainted after reading some news in the Newspaper..."
It turned out that Xue Lianhe had gotten sick because of the incident, and she must have been very angry. The facade she had maintained for so many years was torn apart overnight, exposing her true self in front of so many people, which was truly a source of ridicule.
Xiao Jingqiu had always cared about her reputation; it was no surprise that she would be furious over such a big matter.
When this was mentioned, Xue Yiyang looked at her with guilt. “Qiqi, those photos of you and Mu Tongzi…”
“I know it was your mother who did it. Overnight, people got to know me as Mrs. Jiang all over again; she actually helped me advertise.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know she would hire someone to take pictures of you, and I certainly didn’t know she would send the photos to the newspaper. I’m really sorry!”
A woman’s reputation is more important than anything else, yet he had indirectly become the executioner who ruined hers. Guilt and self-blame wrapped around him like wild vines, almost suffocating him.
“There’s nothing to apologize for; I’m not a big deal anyway, so I’m not afraid of my reputation being Wreckage.” She forced a bitter smile and turned her head to look out at the bright sunlight streaming in through the window. The soft glow infused a bit of warmth into her lonely heart.
“You should go back now. Thank you for coming to see me, but for your mother’s sake, let’s not meet again in the future!”
“Qiqi…” Xue Yiyang opened his mouth as if wanting to say something more, but Green Qi had already tiredly closed her eyes.
With a light sigh, Xue Yiyang took a deep look at her. “Then I’ll leave first; take care of yourself!”
Just as he reached the door of the ward, he heard Xiao Jingqiu’s desperate cries coming from inside. Startled, Xue Yiyang rushed in, narrowly avoiding a fruit that flew past his eye. He looked up and saw Xue Lianhe, who had entered at some point, standing beside him. His dark eyes immediately sank.
