In a cozy apartment in Taipei, as night falls, the indoor lights are soft and warm.
Michelle sits on the sofa in the living room, playing with an empty coffee cup in her hand, her expression appearing somewhat troubled.
She knew she had to have an important conversation with David next.
David walked out of the kitchen with two freshly brewed cups of tea in hand. He smiled as he sat across from Michelle and handed her a cup of tea.
He noticed Michelle's absent-minded look and asked with concern, "What's wrong, Michelle? You seem preoccupied."
Michelle took a deep breath, knowing that this conversation would be difficult. She said softly, "David, there's something I need to tell you, and it's important for both of us."
David's eyebrows furrowed slightly, but he remained calm: "Of course, you know I will listen to what you have to say."
Michelle's gaze wandered, as if she was searching for the right way to start. After a while, she finally spoke: "Evan has been diagnosed with stage three lung cancer."
This sentence is like a stone thrown into a calm lake, causing ripples. David's expression changed, and a hint of shock and unease flashed in his eyes: "Evan? Your ex-boyfriend Evan?"
Michelle nodded, her eyes filled with obvious sadness: "Yes. I went to the hospital to see him today, and the situation is not good. I... I don't know what to do, I feel very confused."
David fell silent for a moment, knowing full well how much this news would impact Michelle. He set down his teacup and spoke gently but firmly, "Michelle, I understand how you're feeling right now. Evan was a part of your past life, so it's natural for you to worry about him."

David's face showed a pained expression. He tightly held Michelle's hand, trying to comfort her: "Michelle, I love you, you know that. But if you have doubts in your heart, or unresolved feelings, we need to face this issue. Maybe you need some time to sort out your thoughts."
Michelle looked up at David, her eyes filled with gratitude and guilt: "Do you really think so? I don't want to hurt you."
David sighed, his eyes revealing deep understanding and sadness. "I don't want you to stay by my side feeling pain or confusion. If taking some time apart can help you find the answers, then I'm willing to wait. I just hope that, no matter the outcome, we can both face it honestly."
A hint of gratitude flashed in Michelle's eyes. "David, thank you for your understanding. I really need some time to think."
The conversation between the two proceeded both passionately and painfully. In the end, they reached a consensus to temporarily part ways, allowing Michelle the opportunity to sort out her emotions and contemplate the future.

As they were talking, there was a gentle knock on the door. An elderly lady and an old gentleman, as well as a young woman and an eight-year-old boy, walked in. They were Evan's sister, Su San, and her son, Xiao An, as well as Evan's grandparents.
"Michelle, these are my grandparents, my sister Su San, and her son Xiao An," Evan introduced with a smile.
Michelle stood up and politely greeted them with a warm smile on her face.
"Hello, I'm Michelle, a friend of Evan's," she said warmly.
Evan's grandfather looked at Michelle with a hint of gratitude in his eyes: "We've heard Evan mention you, and we're very thankful for your company during this time."
His grandmother gently held Michelle's hand: "Dear, we're so glad to meet you. Evan has always been our pride since he was young. His parents have never been around, and we raised him ourselves."
Su San smiled and took over the conversation: "Yes, Evan has always been a strong kid. He never likes to worry us."
Xiao An looked at Michelle curiously, her eyes filled with innocence: "Auntie, will you come to see my uncle often?"
Michelle's heart was filled with deep emotions, and she gently replied, "Of course, Xiao An. I will come to see your uncle often."
Evan's grandfather added, "Michelle, we are getting old and may not have much time to take care of Evan. If possible, we hope you can pay more attention to him."
These words filled Michelle's heart with deep emotion and a sense of responsibility. She nodded earnestly and said, "I will, please rest assured. Evan is a very special person, and I will do my best to take care of him."
As Evan listened to this conversation, his eyes shimmered with grateful tears. He looked at Michelle, filled with gratitude and love.

After Evan's family left, only Evan and Michelle were left in the room. Michelle sat back on the edge of the bed and gently took Evan's hand.
Evan looked at Michelle, his voice low and full of emotion: "Michelle, I never thought I would feel love and care again in such a situation. Your companionship makes me feel very precious and happy."
Michelle's eyes filled with tears, her voice choked with emotion: "Evan, you have given me so much, taught me the meaning of courage and love. No matter what the future holds, I will be here, by your side."
The room was filled with a deep and warm atmosphere. Outside, the night grew darker, but in this small space, two souls found comfort and strength in each other's company.
As time quietly passed, Michelle and Evan's conversation gradually became more relaxed. They talked about the good times in the past and planned for possible little joys in the future. Even though Evan's illness made their future uncertain, they both chose to cherish every moment they had together.
Finally, Michelle prepared to leave. She gently kissed Evan's forehead and tenderly said, "Goodnight, Evan. I'll come to see you again tomorrow."
Evan smiled and responded, "Goodnight, Michelle. I look forward to your arrival."
Michelle left the ward and walked down the quiet corridor, her heart filled with mixed emotions. Her love for Evan, gratitude towards David, and uncertainty about the future made her feelings complex.
