Galaxy System Solar Star is Earth, June 17, 2014, Mysterious Structure.
A young boy is in a dimly lit room, facing a very large Computer, inputting some code into it.
"Sir, someone has arrived," a very realistic voice whispers. If one listens closely, they can tell that this voice is not human, carrying a metallic tone.
The boy's screen flickers and then returns to normal, as if nothing had happened. The boy continues his work expressionlessly, his fingers rhythmically tapping on the keyboard, lines of code rapidly appearing on the screen.
"Creak~" The door behind the boy opens, and a man in black appears.
"Ziyu, we have a new discovery." The man in black holds a piece of special metal that is half the height of a person and places it in front of Ziyu. "This meteorite is made of some kind of metal that has never been found on Earth before. We discovered that when electric current is passed through this metal, it changes. What we need from you is to write a program that can control the shape change of this metal."
"Transformers? I can't create that," Ziyu replies without any expression, continuing to type on the keyboard.
"Stop talking nonsense. Just do what you're told and finish it as soon as possible to avoid punishment from above," the man in black snorts coldly, somewhat disdainfully.
"Isn't he just a kid? If it weren't for his strong Computer skills, how could he hold such a high position in the organization!" The man thinks to himself but dares not say it out loud.
After the man leaves.
"Sir, he has left," the voice sounds again.
"Forget about that for now. I don't want to suffer punishment from the organization a second time. Zero, let's analyze this metal," Ziyu says. Zero is the owner of that voice, an artificial Intelligence secretly developed by Ziyu without the organization's knowledge to assist him in his work.
Ziyu's talent with Computer could be described as monstrous; he was once an Orphan, later adopted. By the age of seven or eight, he had already shown astonishing Computer skills, and at eleven, he was brought into the organization by his Adoptive Father. Ziyu never expected that his once good Adoptive Father would do such things; even more surprising was that his seemingly ordinary Adoptive Father, who worked as just a staff member, was actually one of the leaders of the organization. Shortly after being brought into the organization, Ziyu's abilities were recognized because at that time, no firewall on the internet could stop him. Given enough time, Ziyu could infiltrate any computer connected to the network and retrieve information.
However, this was not the main purpose of the organization. They kept assigning him various tasks, some of which were inexplicable.
Ziyu faced immense work pressure, working sixteen to seventeen hours a day out of twenty-four. He had considered resisting but was punished instead. The so-called punishment was more akin to abuse; thus, afterward, Ziyu tried his best to complete tasks on time. Now at fourteen years old, he had even developed Zero, an artificial Intelligence that was theoretically difficult to achieve.
As soon as Ziyu finished speaking, a blue **domain appeared on the screen**, displaying numerous data points. There was a small black box on one side with a horizontal line in the center.
"Sir, we can begin testing," Zero's voice sounded as the small black box began to fluctuate. It turned out that this black box displayed Zero's language information.
Ziyu connected two probes to the piece of metal while Zero began controlling the electric current and recording data.
The metallic surface, said to be a meteorite, began to shimmer and then started to writhe as if electricity had given it life.
“It’s done, sir. Theoretically, we can program this metal to change its shape and function by controlling the current,” Zero said.
“Can you handle it independently?” Ziyu asked, not wanting to spend too much time on this task as there were other missions to attend to.
“I can, but it will take some time,” Zero replied.
Ziyu moved the metal to the corner of the room, keeping the probes connected for Zero to experiment and test the programming. Meanwhile, Ziyu continued with the tasks he had been working on.
“Isn’t this an opportunity?” After a while, Ziyu paused his typing; the data on the screen had stopped moving.
Ziyu looked at the writhing metal in the corner and suddenly felt a spark of hope. It was hope for freedom!
“Zero, let’s program together. We can compile from both ends simultaneously and then merge them into a complete program,” Ziyu said as he installed two more probes on the metal and opened the program to manually control the current flowing in.
“Sir, if we power it simultaneously, it could cause current disruption. However, by using pulsed currents, we can find patterns here more quickly. Just keep in mind that the program created this way might have some errors.”
“It’s fine. Let’s write the program first; we can modify it later.” Ziyu was focused solely on getting this program written because now he could use programming as an excuse to keep this metal here. Once the program was completed, Ziyu would essentially have a powerful tool!
The next day.
“Tap… Tap… Tap…” After resting, Ziyu continued testing. The metal finally reacted; it no longer writhed like soft jelly but began to exhibit a metallic texture, as if it was already moving toward Ziyu's goal.
Ziyu was thrilled and felt no fatigue at all because this was about his freedom. If successful, he could escape from the organization using this metal—what a great outcome that would be!
“Sir, we now have a lead. We should increase the pulse frequency of the current and try various current signals in a short time to test the metal's reaction,” Zero suggested.
“In fact, I suspected such a metal existed from the beginning; it just hadn’t been discovered on Earth. Indeed, this type of metal really exists!” Excitement shone in Ziyu's eyes.
Long ago, Ziyu had entertained this idea. When current passes through metal, free electrons within the metal shift direction opposite to that of the current flow; this is what allows metals to conduct electricity.
Ziyu thought that the movement of free electrons is how metals respond to voltage. After introducing current, theoretically, the movement of free electrons should also affect the overall structure of the metal, thus allowing control over its shape through electricity. However, despite trying various conductive materials, Ziyu had seen no results. The only noticeable change was with colloids, but colloids could only move under electrical guidance.
Now Ziyu's conjecture has been realized; this type of metal, which is very sensitive to electric current, truly exists. Unfortunately, it is only available in such a large piece and is "imported."
"Sizzle..." Ziyu has stopped controlling his own electric current, and the control is now entirely in Zero's hands. Zero increased the frequency of the current changes, resulting in a greater variety of different sizes of currents passing through during the same time period, causing slight turbulence in the contact voltage and producing a sizzling sound.
Ziyu watched the vast amount of data scrolling across the screen, occasionally recording some notes.
"Sir, the testing is complete. I have recorded some data, and I will organize it into patterns before writing a program. If there are any errors, I will make corrections," said Zero.
"Good," replied Ziyu. He entered some commands on the Computer, and then the entire window displayed a dense array of data that left Ziyu feeling dizzy.
No matter how capable Ziyu is, he is still human; only artificial intelligence can handle such a large volume of data simultaneously.
On the third day, around two in the morning.
"Sir, the programming is complete." Zero's voice rang out.
Ziyu opened his sleepy eyes and saw the message indicating that the programming was finished, instantly becoming excited.
"Great, let's start testing now!"
