"Let's begin!" 0

After studying the details of the process, they decided to address the empty podium in unison: 0

"One indicates affirmation, two indicates negation, guardian spirit, oh guardian spirit, may I ask you to answer my question?" 0

Silence. 0

"...I didn't hear a response," E said. 0

"Weren't you the one who said to remain quiet?" A shot her a glare. 0

M lightly tapped the table. "Alright, I'll respond for you. Go ahead and continue asking!" 0

"Please stop messing around!" A shouted in frustration. 0

"Sigh! Fine, since she wants to be the guardian spirit, let her be!" K was also getting impatient. "Come on, let's address her this time!" 0

"Bring it on!" M opened her arms dismissively, indicating her welcome. 0

Reluctantly, A and K faced M together and recited: 0

"One indicates affirmation, two indicates negation, guardian spirit, oh guardian spirit, may I ask you to answer my question?" 0

Suddenly, a light sound of "knock!" came from the ceiling. 0

Everyone froze in place, not daring to breathe. 0

"...Does that count as a response?" K asked hesitantly. 0

"Is it a coincidence?" M looked up at the ceiling. "Are there mice up there?" 0

"If it were mice, there wouldn't just be one sound, right?" E murmured to herself. 0

"Let's consider it a response. Should we continue?" A calmly looked at K. "Do you want to ask first, or should I?" 0

"Then... I'll go first." K shifted her gaze from the ceiling back to M's face. "Spirit of the Guardian, I ask you, are you my guardian spirit?" 0

The surroundings fell silent for a while, and suddenly, two knocks from the nearby desks and chairs echoed around the four of them. 0

"Not me!" M immediately raised her hands in protest before A could glare at her. 0

"Not me either!" E quickly declared her innocence. 0

"Where did that sound come from?" K scanned the desks and chairs in the classroom but found nothing unusual. 0

"I don't know..." E began to seem a bit timid. 0

After a moment of silence, A turned to M and said, "Spirit of the Guardian, I ask you, are you M's guardian spirit?" 0

"Clatter!" Two sounds resembling stones falling echoed from an unknown corner of the classroom. 0

The four of them immediately glanced around but still found nothing out of the ordinary. 0

"Hey... can't you all start with something less serious? Why not ask some lighter questions?" E spoke with a slight tremor. "Um... Spirit of the Guardian, I ask you, will I pass my English quiz tomorrow?" 0

After a long silence, just when everyone doubted there would be any response, a light knock came again from the ceiling. 0

"Ah! One sound means yes! That's great!" E couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. 0

"Ha, if you have the ability, don't read when you go back today and see if you can really pass tomorrow," M scoffed. 0

"One affirmation, two negations," A suddenly said, "Guardian spirit, guardian spirit, should those who do not follow the rules be punished?" 0

In an instant, a sound of "crack!" echoed near the podium. 0

"Hey! What do you mean by that?" M glared at A with a displeased expression. 0

"What? I didn't say anything about following any rules, and I didn't name anyone specifically. Besides, you don't believe in this stuff anyway, so what are you afraid of?" A provocatively shrugged. 0

"Oh, so you want to play big, huh? Fine!" M said coldly. "One affirmation, two negations, guardian spirit, guardian spirit, A who breaks school rules to play games will be discovered by the teacher and taken to the office for a scolding, right?" 0

"One affirmation, two negations, guardian spirit, guardian spirit, M who intervenes in the game will trip over the threshold and fall flat on her face outside, right?" A shot back defiantly. 0

"Hey! Wait a minute! There's no response yet! Is it okay to keep asking like this?" E couldn't help but interrupt. 0

"You two need to calm down and stop this!" K quickly stepped in to mediate. 0

"It was her who started being rude!" A angrily retorted. "If you didn't want to play, you could have just said so from the beginning. Why deliberately cause trouble?" 0

"That's hilarious. What guardian spirit response? It's obviously just the old building creaking and the sounds made by wooden desks and chairs expanding and contracting with temperature changes. Can you really believe that?" M mocked disdainfully. "The brain is a good thing; remember to carry it with you, okay?" 0

"If you don't believe it, then don't play! Is anyone forcing you?" A shouted angrily. 0

"Look at you scaring yourself and thinking it's fun! I'm just happy about it; so what?" M huffed proudly. "One affirmation, two negations, guardian spirit, guardian spirit, A will get hit by a car for not watching where she's going when she leaves school later, right?" 0

"Hey!" K said urgently with a serious expression. "Why are you doing this?" 0

"What? What are you afraid of? It would be great if just shouting like this would make things happen! Then I demand the guardian spirit let me win the lottery jackpot; is that okay?" M rolled her eyes dismissively. 0

"...one for affirmation, two for negation..." A trembled with anger, glaring fiercely at M, gritting her teeth as she said, "Guardian spirit, oh guardian spirit, M will accidentally fall to her death because she's too reckless, right?" 0

"You two..." K exclaimed in frustration, trying to stop their exchange of harsh words. 0

"Bang!" Suddenly, a loud noise came from the window, causing all four to fall silent and instinctively turn to look at the nearby glass window. 0

"...is this a response?" E asked cautiously. 0

"Crack!" 0

"Huh? Three sounds? What does that mean?" 0

"Just a normal phenomenon," M scoffed. 0

"Thud, thud..." The tightly shut window suddenly began to shake violently. "Clang, clang, clang—" 0

"W-what's happening? What do we do now?" E looked at the others in a panic. 0

"I... I don't know..." A, shaken back to reality by the earlier loud noise, felt her anger subside slightly. The sudden occurrence made her feel uneasy... 0

In response, M merely spat dismissively. "It's just the wind blowing too hard." After saying that, she jumped off the table and walked toward the window. 0

"Hey, I just thought of a question..." K asked A nervously in a low voice, "How do we ask it to go back?" 0

"Well... we should just ask it to go back like this?" A replied uncertainly. "We just need to directly ask it to leave; as long as it agrees, the game will end..." 0

K nodded and immediately addressed the air: "One for affirmation, two for negation, guardian spirit, oh guardian spirit, thank you for your assistance; please leave!" 0

At that moment, M suddenly threw open the window. The previously shaking glass instantly returned to stillness as if everything that had just happened was merely an illusion. 0

Upon seeing this, A, K, and E couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief from the bottom of their hearts. 0

"Strange?" M suddenly turned back with a serious expression. "There's no wind..." 0

"...It just happened to stop blowing," E replied. 0

M, looking puzzled, leaned out of the window to check. 0

"But if there really was such a strong wind just now, there should be leaves scattered all over the ground... uh!" 0

In an instant, M unexpectedly slipped, her body half hanging out of the window. She lost her balance and fell outward— 0

"Ah—" 0

K, who was closest, wanted to rush forward to grab her but was already too late. 0

Amidst the terrified screams of everyone, they could only watch helplessly as M's figure disappeared outside the window, until a heavy thud sounded from below. 0

Silence ensued. 0
