Wei Qian had always been the calm and steady figure among them, like an older sister protecting them, especially taking care of girls like Rao Jie. If it hadn't been for Wu Xin contacting her last night, Rao Jie would have likely turned to Wei Qian first for help.
"Is it Jiang Chuchu?" Rao Jie looked up in surprise.
"I didn't know anything before. I checked your social media as soon as I could, and there was nothing about Bao Ming or Jiang Chuchu. Then I asked my boyfriend. Can you believe it? That guy knew everything already and kept it from me! Because of him, you almost ended up homeless last night, I..."
"Did he... did he know all along?" Rao Jie’s lips trembled slightly.
Wei Qian felt a pang of sympathy for Rao Jie but knew she couldn't hide the truth.
"Yes, he confessed to me that he noticed something was off a month ago. He even saw things he shouldn't have, but since Bao Ming is his buddy, he kept quiet. He said he wanted to wait for Bao Ming to make his own decision, as if he were some kind of emperor with a harem to choose from!"
Rao Jie lowered her head, gripping her trembling hands tightly in anger.
Jiang Chuchu was also preparing for graduate school entrance exams, so they spent nearly every day together. Bao Ming was busy with his internship and often away, but she never suspected anything was wrong between the two of them. She had thought that last night they were just... but it turned out they had been hiding things from her all along.
Rao Jie couldn't bear to think back on it. How could those two act so well? They had played their parts flawlessly in front of her.
Seeing Rao Jie’s distress, Wei Qian decided not to press further. After finishing lunch, she asked Rao Jie where she wanted to go.
Rao Jie planned to head home first; she had left in such a rush last night that she had forgotten many things, including her ID card. She wanted to go back and grab a few essentials.
Wei Qian felt uneasy about letting Rao Jie go alone in her current state and decided to accompany her.
However, just as they were about to leave the cafeteria, they ran into the last two people Rao Jie wanted to see right now.
Unlike Wei Qian and Wu Xin, who could confront anyone without fear, Rao Jie just wanted to avoid this situation altogether. But it was clear that this time she couldn't escape; these two were here specifically for her.
When they reached the shaded path, Wei Qian grabbed Rao Jie’s arm. "You can't shake them off; face them!"
Rao Jie turned around to look at the two anxious figures approaching her.
Bao Ming was dressed in sportswear, clearly having thrown on whatever he could find in a hurry. In the past, she thought he looked handsome in his basketball gear with his sun-kissed skin glowing healthily under the sun's rays. But now, Bao Ming seemed uncomfortable; he disliked wearing sports clothes outside of practice and only wore them at his rented apartment.
"Jie Jie, what... what happened? Why did you delete me from your friends list? I added you back; did you see it?"
Rao Jie stared at Bao Ming's face for a moment before glancing at Jiang Chuchu standing beside him, who seemed hesitant to speak.
Jiang Chuchu's brow was furrowed with worry, her expression conflicted. She was still wearing the wrinkled clothes from yesterday that had gotten wet and dried again.
They must have rushed over from their apartment!
Rao Jie couldn't help but feel a bit nauseous at the thought. Wei Qian was behind her, patting her back to encourage her, his eyes filled with concern. This version of Rao Jie made Bao Ming a little anxious. "Jie Jie..." Bao Ming called out to Rao Jie as he approached.
