Wei Qian also knew that Rao Jie was not upset because her good friend had fallen for her boyfriend. Knowing Rao Jie’s personality, if she found out, she would definitely be troubled and try to find a solution, but she would never resent Jiang Chuchu. What Rao Jie cared about was the fact of betrayal, which was an unimaginable blow for someone as innocent as her.
She remembered the times when they gossiped about other dormitory friends fighting over boyfriends, tearing each other apart. Back then, Wu Xin and Wei Qian spoke with great enthusiasm, while Rao Jie could hardly believe it and asked, “How is that possible? How could such a thing happen? No way, we’re good friends!” Rao Jie would have never thought that one day such a thing would happen to her.
“What are you talking about? She has already deleted me from WeChat! What else is there to say?” Jiang Chuchu said with a stern face.
Bao Ming frowned and looked at Jiang Chuchu. “Chuchu, we owe Rao Jie an apology.”
As if something had exploded inside her, Jiang Chuchu suddenly lost control and shouted at Rao Jie, “Do you think so too? Do you think I owe you an apology?”
Rao Jie stared blankly at Jiang Chuchu, who seemed completely unfamiliar after just one night, and didn’t respond. But it seemed Jiang Chuchu had something to get off her chest.
She turned to Wei Qian and said, “We’re all good friends. Why are you all siding with her? It’s not just you; if Wu Xin knew, she would force me to apologize too. You all think I’m in the wrong and only pity her, right? What do you know? She always pretends to be weak and vulnerable to gain your sympathy, making you protect her while acting like the victim…”
“Jiang Chuchu, are you out of your mind?!” Wei Qian interrupted angrily.
“Chuchu!” Bao Ming also tried to calm the agitated Jiang Chuchu; he didn’t understand what was happening with her either.
Rao Jie looked at Jiang Chuchu. “You… are so dissatisfied with me? Why do you hate me so much?”
Tears were welling up in Jiang Chuchu’s eyes, as if she needed to express the pain she had been suppressing for so long. Her voice became sharp. “Because you are the one who stole my love, Mistress! You took Bao Ming away from me! Why should I apologize now? What did I do wrong? I’ve known Bao Ming for so many years; I liked him since middle school! How can you just come along and start dating him? I knew him first! Why do you flaunt your love in front of me? They all defend you; why should I apologize to you? You should apologize to me for the pain I’ve endured these three years!”
As she shouted, tears streamed down her face as if she carried a tremendous grievance. Bao Ming felt heartbroken and pulled her into his embrace.
Both Rao Jie and Wei Qian were stunned; they had never noticed this before.
Jiang Chuchu continued to cry out in despair. “Why should I apologize to you? You’re the one who wronged me! You stole my beloved!”
Seeing the two of them huddled together as if they were the true star-crossed lovers, Rao Jie closed her eyes and finally spoke in a hoarse voice. “Whether or not you apologize doesn’t matter to me anymore, but Jiang Chuchu, have you forgotten something?”
Bao Ming looked over, and Jiang Chuchu raised her head, looking at Rao Jie with hostility.
“In our freshman year when we first met, I didn’t even know who Bao Ming was. It was you who came over and told me that a guy liked me—your good friend—and that you hoped we could get to know each other.”
“I was really shy back then; it was you who kept playing matchmaker and took us out together until I slowly got to know Bao Ming.”
