He Xiao came to find me once.
His complexion looked very poor, and his eyes were bloodshot.
As soon as he saw me, he grabbed my arm and anxiously asked, "Qingyu, are you really going to marry Qi Qianyu?"
I nodded, "Yes."
He was slightly taken aback, his voice becoming a bit hoarse, "Why?"
I sighed, "Because I like him, and he likes me too."
He looked at me, his eyes reddening, "Are you doing this to get back at me?"
I looked at him, feeling heartache for the years of humble unrequited love.
How could I sacrifice my feelings just to get back at him?
How could I give up my happiness for him?
He was really overthinking it.
What did he take me for?
I shook my head, "It's not revenge; I truly like Qi Qianyu."
"Impossible!" he shouted, "The person you like the most is me. How could you possibly like someone else!"
I was momentarily dazed, "He Xiao, so you knew."
"I once thought I would always like you."
"But later I realized that my feelings for you were just my obsession."
He Xiao opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately did not speak.
I forced a bitter smile and said, "He Xiao, I really liked you once, for many, many years."
"For all these years, I have quietly watched over you and quietly liked you."
"How much do I like you? I would do anything for you."
"But I found that I no longer like you; I truly do not like you anymore."
"I am grateful to you for appearing in my life and giving me those not-so-beautiful memories."
"But now I have let go of you, so please let go of me too."
"I wish you happiness with Wanwan, and I also wish for happiness with Qianyu."
He stared at me blankly, a look of confusion on his face.
I didn't know if he understood, but I had done my best.
I hoped he could let go of me and also release his hostility towards Qi Qianyu.
After saying these words, I turned and left.
I no longer focused my thoughts on He Xiao because the academy's assessments had begun.
Today was the Equestrian Archery Assessment.
I was riding my horse, somewhat distracted.
Suddenly, my horse began to neigh in pain as if it had gone mad, rearing up and charging forward.
This unexpected turn of events caught Master and the students off guard as the horse bolted.
I lay on the horse, gripping the reins tightly, my face pale with fear.
Qi Qianyu's expression changed slightly as he leaped onto a horse from the crowd and galloped after me.
As he approached the horse, he struck its neck with a palm, causing it to crash to the ground. He jumped behind me, holding me securely in his arms as we landed safely.
He carefully supported me and asked, "Qingyu, how are you? Are you hurt?"
I shook my head, my legs feeling a bit weak. "I'm fine, just a little scared."
Qi Qianyu turned to look at Master, his eyes filled with coldness. "Regarding today's incident, whether it was an accident or intentional, I hope the academy will investigate thoroughly to reassure all the students."
Master hadn't expected such an event during what was supposed to be a routine assessment. Thankfully, no one was hurt; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
"Miss Ye, please rest assured that concerning the safety of the students, the academy will conduct a thorough investigation."
Qi Qianyu nodded and turned back to me, a hint of concern flashing in his eyes. "Qingyu, I'll take you back home."
I felt a lingering fear but replied, "Okay."
He picked me up and walked forward.
I reached out and wrapped my arms around his neck.
I could feel his hands were warm and his movements gentle.
My heart raced a little faster, and my cheeks felt slightly flushed.
We sat down in the carriage.
He looked down at me, his gaze as gentle as water. "Qingyu, are you feeling better?"
I managed a faint smile. "Much better."
He gazed at me, a flicker of intense warmth shining in his eyes.
I felt a bit embarrassed under his gaze, my cheeks growing even warmer.
I lowered my head, my heart racing faster.
I could sense him slowly leaning closer to me.
His breath brushed against my neck, sending shivers down my spine.
I felt a mix of nervousness and anticipation.
His lips gently covered mine.
His scent filled my senses, making me feel slightly dizzy.
I closed my eyes, allowing myself to sink into his kiss.
He kissed me softly and tenderly, making me feel like I was a precious treasure cradled in his hands.
My heart was filled with sweetness and happiness, along with an inexplicable sense of security.
I no longer envied He Xiao and Su Wanwan's love, nor did I envy anyone else.
Because I already had the best.
