The indicator light next to the elevator button had turned yellow, looking quite old. I reached out and pressed the call button, which emitted a faint click, followed by a dim yellow light illuminating above. Thankfully, it still worked. I sighed in relief, but then a buzzing sound filled my ears. 0

I instinctively glanced around and noticed that the corner of the lobby was piled high with discarded furniture, covered in white cloths that were thick with dust. The crooked paintings on the wall had long been overtaken by mold. 0

I couldn't help but mutter under my breath, "In a place like this, even ghosts would probably be too lazy to come!" 0

Stepping into the elevator, the doors slowly opened. Behind them was an even darker space than the lobby. I turned on my flashlight, and a beam of light cut through the darkness, revealing rusted metal walls. 0

However, what truly caught my attention were the strange symbols on the walls. They were densely packed, covering the entire elevator shaft. These symbols were crooked yet gave me the illusion of movement, as if they possessed a life of their own. 0

At that moment, I couldn't focus on those details; I cautiously stepped into the elevator. Instantly, a bone-chilling cold emanated from the surrounding metal walls. I gently touched those strange symbols, and the cold hardness sent a shiver down my spine. 0

"What... what are these things?" I murmured, instinctively taking a few steps back. 0

At first glance, these symbols looked like something a child had scribbled carelessly, but upon closer inspection, I noticed that their lines were consistently thick and smooth at the corners. It was as if they had been carved with some kind of tool. 0

I furrowed my brow, feeling an increasing sense of unease. Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to calm down and then pressed the elevator button. I selected the 28th floor. 0

The 28th floor is the highest in this building, and I am prepared to start sweeping down from the top floor. 0

Ding dong. 0

With a crisp sound, the elevator doors closed. 0

Then, the elevator began to rise slowly. 0

In the quiet elevator, the only sounds were the rustling of cables rubbing against the elevator and the whooshing wind coming from the shaft. 0

I stared intently at those strange symbols; they grew brighter, like floating eyes in the dim light. 0

I took a few steps back, my eyes fixed on these glowing symbols, too afraid to move. 0

Although I had no idea what these things were, my intuition told me that I absolutely should not touch them! 0

The elevator continued to ascend, passing several floors without stopping. 0

I clearly remembered that I had only pressed the button for the 28th floor. 0

Why was the elevator stopping at every floor? 0

Moreover, what was even stranger was that each time the elevator stopped, the doors did not open. 0

My heart sank, and I shrank my neck, feeling as if the temperature inside the elevator was dropping lower and lower, while the overhead lights began to flicker. 0

It made me feel uneasy. 0

"What is wrong with this damn elevator?" 0

I swallowed hard, feeling cold sweat on my back. 0

Finally, the elevator came to a stop. 0

Ding dong. 0

Another crisp sound echoed as the doors opened. 0

The lights in the corridor flickered on and off as I walked forward; the light flashed and my shadow stretched long against the wall. 0

I slowly walked down the corridor until I stopped in front of a door. 0

Looking up, I saw three numbers on the doorplate—404. 0

404? 0
