By the time I returned home, it was already evening.
Looking at the familiar yet strange street in front of me, a sense of warmth surged in my heart. I hadn't been back for a long time. The last time I came back was for my grandmother's funeral.
I sighed, gathered my spirits, and prepared to cook a nice meal to reward myself. Over the years, I had been accommodating Fu Tianming's tastes and rarely got to eat the spicy dishes I liked. Today, I could finally indulge myself.
Thinking of this made me feel a bit happy. There were no ingredients at home, so I planned to go downstairs to buy some.
As soon as I opened the door, I saw a somewhat familiar figure. It was Han Zheng.
He smiled and walked over to me, saying, "Hello there, neighbor."
I looked at him in shock. He blinked and pointed to the door across from mine. "What a coincidence, we live right across from each other."
"Are you going shopping?"
I nodded, not wanting to talk much with him, and headed straight down the stairs.
To my surprise, when I returned, Han Zheng was still there.
His eyes lit up when he saw me. "You're back!"
I gave him a suspicious glance, not understanding why he hadn't left yet.
He rubbed his nose and said, "Well, I rang your doorbell earlier and found out you weren't home, so I decided to wait for you."
"Do you want to come over for a visit?"
I replied lightly, "No need to be polite."
After saying that, I turned and went into the house.
I started cooking. Soon enough, a colorful and aromatic spicy dish was ready. It made my mouth water just looking at it.
I couldn't wait to grab a piece of beef and shove it into my mouth.
It was too spicy.
But it felt so good.
Just as I was enjoying my meal, the doorbell suddenly rang.
I walked over to open the door and found Han Zheng standing there.
He was holding a box and smiling at me, "I forgot to give this to you earlier. Thank you for saving my life."
I glanced at the chocolate in his hand, paused for a moment, and took it, "Thank you."
He peeked inside the house, "Are you cooking?"
"It smells so good."
"Can I have a taste?"
Before I could respond, he walked into the kitchen on his own and picked up a pair of chopsticks to start eating.
"Wow, this is so delicious."
"This beef is so tender, this potato is so crispy, this ham is so fragrant..."
I watched him go through this series of actions in shock.
Isn't he a bit too familiar?
But for some reason, I didn't feel any aversion.
Maybe it's been too long since I had someone to eat with.
I smiled faintly, "If you like it, go ahead and eat more."
"Then I won't hold back."
He grinned at me, his eyes sparkling with joy.
But what I didn't expect was that Han Zheng had quite an appetite.
A large plate of spicy stir-fried beef that I hardly touched was completely devoured by him.
He licked his lips with satisfaction, "This is so delicious! I've never had such good food before."
"You’re amazing."
When he complimented me, his eyes were bright and his expression very animated.
I couldn't help but chuckle.
Although I know my cooking skills are quite good, I still felt quite happy to receive such direct compliments.
After dinner, Han Zheng took the initiative to help me clear the dishes. I wanted to stop him, saying, "You're a guest; how can I let you do this?"
He smiled and said, "It's okay, just let me show off a bit."
I glanced at him. He was very handsome. With fair skin and delicate features, his pair of peach blossom eyes sparkled, making him look like a playboy. However, his actions were lively and straightforward, completely not resembling a playboy at all.
After clearing the dishes, he also took the initiative to replace the broken light bulb in the living room. "This light has been broken for a long time; I just bought a new one a few days ago."
He stood on a chair, tiptoed a bit, and easily unscrewed the old bulb. I watched his movements from the side, feeling a warmth rising in my heart. It had been a long time since anyone had taken care of me like this.
Fu Tianming was very busy, leaving early and coming home late; I was the one worrying about everything at home. I couldn't even remember the last time someone had been so considerate towards me.
After Han Zheng replaced the bulb, he jumped down and clapped his hands, saying, "All done."
"If anything else breaks in the future, just call me."
I smiled slightly and said, "Thank you."
He scratched the back of his head and smiled shyly, "No need to be polite."
That night, I slept particularly soundly. Perhaps it was because I was too tired during the day or maybe Han Zheng gave me a sense of security. In any case, I no longer thought about Fu Tianming like I used to.
