The sound was particularly clear and piercing in the stillness of the deep night. My body trembled involuntarily. A tremendous fear enveloped me. I desperately pounded on the door, shouting hoarsely, "Who is out there?" "Who are you?" "Get away, or I'll call the police." But no matter how much I yelled, the person outside ignored me. Instead, they quickened their pace in unlocking the door. I was completely panicked. In my frenzy, I dialed Fu Tianming's number. The phone rang several times before finally connecting. "Fu Tianming, help me!" I said, my voice trembling and urgent. On the other end, Fu Tianming seemed to still be half asleep. He mumbled, "What's wrong?" "Someone is at my door; he wants to come in." "I'm really scared; please come save me." I cried out desperately, my voice breaking. But Fu Tianming just chuckled lightly. "Feng Nuannuan, do you think I would still believe your nonsense?" "Last time you said something happened to your grandmother, and now you're using this excuse." "Can you stop being so childish?" "I've already told you I'm not going to divorce you; what more do you want?" "If you want to come back, just come back yourself; don't use these lame excuses." "I'm hanging up." My mind went blank. The busy tone echoed in the phone. Fu Tianming had hung up on me. Despair washed over me as I pressed against the door, tears streaming down my face. Was I really going to die here?
At that moment, a loud shout suddenly came from outside the door.
"Who are you?"
"What are you holding?"
It was Han Zheng's voice.
I quickly looked up, my heart racing.
Outside, Han Zheng's voice rang out again.
"If you don't answer me, I'm calling the police."
Immediately after, there was a loud "bang" from outside.
It sounded like something had fallen to the ground.
I hurriedly leaned over to the peephole and saw a man lying outside.
He was wearing black clothes and a black cap, so I couldn't see his face.
He rushed forward and started punching and kicking the man.
But the man quickly reacted.
The two of them began to grapple with each other.
I anxiously shouted, "Stop fighting, call the police!"
But as soon as I finished speaking, the man took the opportunity to escape.
Han Zheng wanted to chase after him, but the man had already run far away.
He was worried about me and didn't pursue him.
He stood at the door and shouted loudly, "Are you okay?"
"I've already chased the bad guy away."
I quickly opened the door.
Han Zheng was standing at the entrance, breathing heavily.
His clothes were in disarray, and there was a cut on his lip.
Seeing me, he grinned and said, "Aren't I impressive?"
"Don't worry, with me around, no one can bully you."
I stared at him in a daze, feeling a warm current surge in my heart.
"Let me in quickly."
"I can't wear these clothes anymore; I need to change."
He chuckled and pushed past me, walking straight into the room.
I came back to my senses and hurriedly closed the door.
Han Zheng walked around the house and said, "Hmm, your place is quite big."
"It's a waste for you to live here alone."
As he spoke, he took off his clothes and said, "I'm going to take a shower."
Before I could respond, he went into the bathroom.
I looked towards the bathroom, feeling a mix of emotions.
Thanks to him today, I really didn't know what I would have done otherwise.
After Han Zheng finished his shower, he lay down on the sofa and fell asleep.
He said he was afraid that person might come back, so he decided to sleep here tonight.
I hesitated for a moment but agreed.
After all, I was a bit scared.
That night, Han Zheng slept on the sofa while I tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep.
I couldn't help but wonder if Fu Tianming would have come to save me if he had believed me today.
If he hadn't hung up on my call, would he have stayed at my door like Han Zheng, protecting me from harm?
The answer was no.
He didn't care about my well-being at all.
He didn't believe what I said and even thought I was lying to him.
Thinking about this made my heart sink completely.
The next morning when I woke up, I found Han Zheng had already made breakfast.
He smiled and waved at me, saying, "Come eat breakfast."
"After we eat, I'll take you to buy a new lock."
"Don't worry; I won't let you get hurt."
Looking at his bright smile, warmth surged in my heart.
Maybe some things really need to be let go.
