After enduring countless hardships, we finally set foot on this land forgotten by time—the dense jungles of Central America. Within this lush forest lies the wisdom and power of the ancient Maya. We navigated carefully between vines and ancient trees, each step taken with caution, fearing to disturb the slumbering souls that had rested for millennia or trigger unknown mechanisms.
As we ventured deeper into the jungle, we discovered some ancient ruins, overgrown by the vegetation, as if nature was slowly reclaiming this land. We cleared away some obstacles, gradually revealing a path leading deeper into the ruins.
“Li Jin, look!” Jack's exclamation broke the silence of the forest. He pointed to a series of stone steps, worn yet resilient against the ravages of time, tightly embraced by vines. “Those steps seem to lead to something important.”
We carefully ascended the stone steps and eventually arrived at an open plaza. In the center stood a massive stone platform, intricately carved with complex patterns and symbols that sparkled like stars, telling of the Maya's unique understanding of the universe, time, and life.
I stepped forward to closely examine these patterns. “These symbols represent the Maya calendar; they record the cycles of time and the secrets of the universe.” As I spoke, I traced my fingers over the carvings on the stone platform. “If I’m not mistaken, the Mayan Calendar Fragment is hidden somewhere here.”
Just as I immersed myself in studying these ancient symbols, a sudden mechanical roar shattered the air. A group of uninvited guests emerged from the shadows of the jungle, well-equipped and with cold expressions—clearly soldiers sent by Zhao Wuji.
Leading them was a tall man who sneered at us. “Li Jin, you can't escape. Hand over all your fragments, and perhaps I can grant you a quick end.”
I gripped the Dragon Vein Fragment tightly, quickly calculating my options. We were cornered in one part of the plaza as their encirclement tightened. I glanced around and exchanged a look with Jack; we had to find a way to break through.
“Jack, do you remember our experience at the Hanging Gardens of Babylon?” I whispered to him.
Jack nodded, determination flashing in his eyes. “Of course; we can use the same method.”
We swiftly exchanged glances and simultaneously ran in two different directions to divert their attention. In that moment of distraction, I pulled out a specially designed flashbang from my backpack, pulled its pin, and quickly threw it into the midst of our pursuers.
The explosion of light blinded them instantly; they cried out in pain as they shielded their eyes. Seizing this opportunity, Jack and I rushed toward the stone platform to search for mechanisms hiding the Mayan Calendar Fragment.
At the base of the platform, I discovered an inconspicuous small hole that perfectly matched one of the symbols on it. I took out the Navigator; its glow aligned perfectly with the shape of the hole.
“Jack, come here!” I shouted.
Jack immediately understood and quickly ran over to join me in placing the Navigator into the small hole. As we did so, a deep rumbling sound emanated from the platform before it slowly rose to reveal a passage leading downwards.
Without hesitation, we jumped into the passage. At its end was a brightly lit underground chamber where our long-desired Mayan Calendar Fragment awaited us at its center.
