On August 3, 2022, I discovered that Old Li was missing at the construction site.
The site was bustling with activity, and the sound of the pile driver was deafening. I was busy organizing work, and it was only when I counted the number of workers that I realized Old Li was gone.
"Has anyone seen Old Li?" I asked a few coworkers.

"Old Zhao, what’s going on? How could someone just disappear like that?"
Old Zhao shook his head without answering and went back to his work.
I felt a sense of unease; this wasn't the first time someone had gone missing.
Last month, Xiao Wang also vanished, and he still hasn't been found.
The brothers at the site were like family to me; I couldn't just ignore their safety.
I decided to check Old Li's place; maybe I could find some clues.
Old Li's place was very simple, just a temporary shed.
