My mother-in-law stared directly at my belly. "Nana, you're pregnant, but how come your figure is still so good?"
"Mom, please don't tease me. I haven't really shown yet," I replied with a smile.
"Oh," she responded, continuing to gaze at my belly for a while.
I found it strange and followed her gaze to look at my own stomach.
I was wearing a white dress, and due to the pregnancy, my chest and belly were slightly more pronounced.
However, there was nothing unusual about it.
"Mom, what are you looking at?" I asked.
"Oh, nothing. I was just wondering how big the baby in your belly is," she said with a smile as she withdrew her gaze. "Nana, you should drink your soup. I need to go do some work now."
After saying that, she took a broom and went outside to clean the yard.
I looked down at the Black-Boned Chicken Soup in my hands. It had a bright color, with only a few strips of scallion and some goji berries floating on top.
A rich aroma wafted into my nose.
I couldn't help but scoop up a spoonful.
As soon as the soup entered my mouth, a strong flavor exploded in my mouth.
I almost spit it out.
"Nana, is the soup good?" my mother-in-law called from outside.
"It's good," I replied.
"Then drink more. You're eating for two now; you must eat more nutritious food," she said while sweeping the floor.
"Um," I replied.
I lowered my head, preparing to finish the soup.
At that moment, I noticed something sharp and nail-like in the bowl.
It looked like a chicken's claw.
A wave of nausea surged up.
I rushed to the bathroom and vomited the soup out of my mouth.
"Ugh—"
"Nana, what's wrong?" Grandma threw away the broom and hurried over to pat my back.
"There's something in the soup," I said, clutching my chest and gasping for breath.
"What is it?" Grandma asked, looking puzzled.
"It seems like an animal's paw."
"Oh dear, Nana, that's a chicken claw. It's very nutritious," Grandma laughed. "I specifically had Chen Feng buy the best pigeon, a female pigeon, with tender meat and fresh broth. You should drink more."
"Ugh—" I started to vomit again.
I was throwing up so much that I expelled the porridge I had eaten in the morning.
Grandma stood by, patting my back and happily saying, "Nana, your pregnancy reaction is really strong. Most people like you are having boys."
"When you give birth to a son, I'll make you delicious food every day."
I waved my hand, unable to speak.
I finally managed to recover.
I called Chen Feng; he was still out of town gathering inspiration and wouldn't be back for a couple of days.
I need to find a way to escape.
But my mother-in-law has been inseparable from me, claiming she wants to protect me.
However, she doesn't seem to be protecting me at all; it feels more like she's monitoring me.
After all, I overheard her phone call last night.
I remember her saying, "Only the dead can keep secrets forever."
Maybe after I give birth, she will kill both me and the baby.
That evening, Chen Feng returned.
I had been looking for a chance to be alone with Chen Feng, but my mother-in-law was always right there.
I could only continue to play dumb and wait for the right moment.
That night, Chen Feng said, "Nana, I have plans to go out for drinks with some friends, so I won't be home for dinner."
