After the three of us escaped through the magical light gate, we were all panting and exhausted, and the tension still hadn't completely faded.
I glanced around, realizing that the guards wouldn't let us off so easily; they might be coming after us any moment now.
"Do you think they'll chase us?" Old Li asked me.
I nodded, indicating that it was very likely.
"We need to get moving and find some useful clues."
Old Li agreed with my assessment, his eyes scanning the surroundings continuously.
"We need to find a safe place to study this diary and see if we can uncover more secrets about this city."
Xiao Jie crouched down, carefully examining some marks on the ground.
"These marks look like they were made by machinery," he said quietly. "The traps and mechanisms here might be more complex than we thought."
I took out the diary and flipped to the marked pages.
"It mentions some things about the central area of the city; there might be great secrets and mysterious powers hidden there."
So we decided to head in that direction while staying alert for the guards' pursuit.
Just as we were about to set off, we suddenly heard a low rumbling sound coming from the direction of the light gate.
We turned around and saw several guards had already crossed through the gate, staring at us.
"Run!" I shouted loudly.
We immediately scattered, using the various buildings and winding streets of the city to evade the guards chasing us.
During our escape, we discovered some strange symbols and patterns that seemed somewhat related to the puzzles we had solved earlier but were also different.
"What do these symbols mean?" Old Li squinted, studying them closely.
I shook my head, equally puzzled.
However, Xiao Jie seemed to have figured something out.
"These symbols... they look like they're guiding us to the center of the city."
Old Li and I looked at Xiao Jie in surprise.
"Are you sure?"
Little Jie nodded.
"I've seen some symbols from ancient civilizations before. They look a bit like the puzzles we've solved, but there's also some difference."
"It seems like they are telling us that to uncover the secrets of this city, we need to go deeper into it."
I thought for a moment and a bold idea popped into my mind.
"Let's follow these symbols and venture into the city."
We ran wildly, with others chasing closely behind us, until we finally reached a huge square.
This square was indeed vast, with a tall tower in the center that looked particularly grand.
The tower was covered in various strange reliefs and symbols, which glowed under the moonlight at night, giving it a mysterious feel.
Standing in the square and looking up at this towering structure, I felt immense admiration.
"This is the heart of the city and our only hope of escaping."
Old Li nodded, his eyes filled with determination.
"We need to break into this tower and uncover its secrets."
Little Jie hesitated.
"But how do we get in?"
I pointed to a stone door at the base of the tower.
"That should be the entrance."
We approached the tower and saw the stone door covered in various strange symbols.
I quickly took out my notebook to see if there were any clues.
