As the revenge plan progressed, my relationship with Lu Chen became increasingly complicated. At first, I regarded him as a good friend and a reliable partner. However, gradually, whenever I looked at him, I felt an inexplicable sensation—intense and beautiful. Especially when he gazed at me, I felt an unprecedented sense of security. It often gave me the illusion that I had returned to my school days.
There was one time after school when I was surrounded by a group of delinquents. They were trying to rob me of my belongings and had taken the jade pendant from my neck. Just as they were about to strip me of my clothes, a boy came and chased them away, retrieving my things. He stared at me for a while, then split my jade pendant in half and took one piece, saying, "Silly girl, consider this your reward. No need to thank me."
Sometimes, Lu Chen made me feel like that boy, but how could that be? This realization left me with mixed emotions.
Chen Yifei saw me with Lu Chen and was furious, his eyes turning red. He rushed up to me, pointing at my nose and shouting, "Ye Lan, you shameless woman! How dare you betray me!"
I scoffed, "Chen Yifei, don’t make it sound so harsh. You know very well who betrayed whom."
Chen Yifei's expression changed. "What... do you mean?"
I looked at him coldly. "What I mean is that I've completely seen through your true colors. From today on, we have nothing to do with each other."
Chen Yifei's face shifted between emotions; after a moment, he took a deep breath. "Ye Lan, I know you're angry with me, but please stop this. Let’s make up, okay?"
I stared at him as if he were foolish. Was he out of his mind?
"Chen Yifei, don't waste your efforts. There’s no possibility left between us," I said flatly.
Chen Yifei's face turned pale with anger. He gritted his teeth and asked, "Ye Lan, are you really going to be this heartless towards me?"
"Heartless?" I laughed coldly. "Chen Yifei, stop pretending; it's disgusting to watch!"
After saying this, I turned and walked away, ignoring Chen Yifei any further.
Naturally, Chen Yifei would not let it go easily; he began using various tactics against me. He exploited public opinion to deliberately spread negative rumors about my relationship with Lu Chen in an attempt to tarnish my reputation. He even staged an accident to make me believe that Lu Chen had betrayed me.
The lights at the business dinner were dazzling and enchanting. I stood in the corner, tightly gripping my wine glass, my gaze unconsciously scanning the crowd for Lu Chen's figure.
Suddenly, a familiar silhouette caught my attention. I saw Lu Chen standing in one corner of the banquet hall, kissing a woman.
For a long moment, I observed her delicate features and graceful figure; they were so close that I could almost hear their breaths. At that moment, it felt as if my heart had been struck by a heavy blow, causing unbearable pain. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I fought to keep them from falling, feeling both wronged and heartbroken.
Lu Chen, the one who had always silently protected and supported me, how could he be with another woman? I recalled the moments we had shared together; those warm memories now pierced my heart like needles.
Just when I was about to break down, a subtle movement drew my attention. Lu Chen suddenly furrowed his brow and looked in my direction, a hint of anxiety and helplessness flashing in his eyes. He quickly tried to shake off the woman and come towards me, but others held him back, preventing his escape as he kept glancing at me.
I took a deep breath, trying hard to calm myself. At that moment, a familiar figure quietly approached me—Chen Yifei with his cold smile.
"Ye Lan, did you see clearly? Your good friend Lu Chen has betrayed you," Chen Yifei's voice echoed in my ear, laced with an indescribable malice.
I suddenly suspected that this was all part of Chen Yifei's scheme! He had deliberately created this scene to make me misunderstand Lu Chen, aiming to undermine the trust and understanding between us. But I had no evidence and felt powerless.
