I informed Gu Chenxuan about Lin Wan'er's plea for help. It wasn't that I had forgiven them; I simply couldn't disregard human life. Gu Chenxuan sighed, "Since my wife has spoken up, I naturally have to lend a hand."
Ermazi learned that Lin Wan'er was already better and sent someone to inform the Lin family to hurry back instead of waiting for him to pick her up. Gu Chenxuan found a few people to send Lin Wan'er to the village to hide before Ermazi could pick her up.
Upon discovering that Lin Wan'er had escaped, Ermazi was furious. He gathered his rogue friends and inquired around until he caught Lin Wan'er, who was preparing to go out, at the village. When Ermazi angrily questioned Lin Wan'er, she replied that it wasn't her decision to leave but rather mine and Gu Chenxuan's idea.
Upon learning the truth, Ermazi was extremely angry, but he knew that given Gu Chenxuan's character and what the Gu family had done, it couldn't have been us who incited her. Moreover, he was just a local thug while the Gu family was well-established. Instead of seeking revenge here, it would be better to visit and negotiate for some money.
So the next day, Ermazi paid a visit. As soon as the steward of the Gu family saw him, he immediately put on a stern face. "What do you want?"
Ermazi wasn't angry; instead, he smiled and said, "Sir, I have something to discuss with your young master regarding the Lin family." The steward frowned but went in to report. "Follow me."
Ermazi followed the steward into the Gu family and arrived at the main hall. "Young Master Gu," he greeted Gu Chenxuan with a smile upon seeing him.
Gu Chenxuan glanced at him and said flatly, "What is it? Speak."
Ermazi smiled ingratiatingly and said, "I've lost my wife; Young Master Gu should at least give me some money to comfort me, right?"
Upon hearing this, Gu Chenxuan narrowed his eyes. He coldly looked at Ermazi and said, "How could your wife be gone?"
Ermazi smiled with a hint of mockery, "Lin Wan'er said you all encouraged her to run away. I know that's not true, but it is somewhat related to you all, so I came to ask for some consolation money."
As Ermazi spoke, Gu Chenxuan's expression grew colder. He didn't expect Lin Wan'er to turn the tables on them! I was even more furious; I couldn't believe Lin Wan'er was such an ungrateful person! We had saved her out of kindness, yet she didn't appreciate it and instead accused us. This was truly outrageous!
Seeing our change in expression, Ermazi became even more pleased with himself. "Young Master Gu, look... this silver?"
Gu Chenxuan snorted coldly and threw a hundred taels of silver at Ermazi. "Take this money and get lost!"
"Yes, yes, yes." Upon receiving the money, Ermazi immediately beamed with joy. "Thank you, Young Master Gu, thank you, Young Master Gu." After saying that, he happily left with the money.
Once he was gone, I exchanged glances with Gu Chenxuan. "Husband, it seems we saved a white-eyed wolf," I said with a bitter smile.
Gu Chenxuan comforted me, "Don't be sad; at least we still have silver."
I couldn't help but laugh. Yes, at least we still had silver.
A few days later, Father Lin and Mother Lin came knocking again for help. The steward said it was because Ermazi lost a gamble and sold Lin Wan'er to a brothel. After thinking it over repeatedly, I really didn't want to have any further dealings with the Lin family, so I decided to go out and clarify things with them.
"Xiaoxiao, Wan'er has been sold to a brothel. Please, save her!"
I looked at them expressionlessly. "Weren't you the ones who plotted against me and ended up suffering the consequences? How can you have the face to ask me to save her now?"
Father Lin cried out, "Xiaoxiao, no matter what, Wan'er is still your Cousin! How can you just stand by and do nothing?"
"Yes, I am her Cousin, not her mother. Besides, I'm not even a biological relative, so what kind of Cousin am I?" I sneered. "Her parents didn't care for her, so why should I?"
"Xiaoxiao, how can you say that?" Mother Lin cried. "After all these years of raising you, is this how you repay us?"
