Huang Xiang was taken aback by Rao Jie's resolute expression, momentarily at a loss for words.
But Rao Jian exploded first, "What are you talking about! I'm telling you, I'm just waiting to be promoted to department manager. Don't mess this up for me! Young Master Hu is going to be my future brother-in-law, and Manager Hu is our in-law. This is already settled; it's not something you can just dismiss. Your little boyfriend's family has no money, and he's just a student. You need to handle this quickly before Young Master Hu finds out and gets upset!"
Rao Jie felt numb, her face blank. She didn't look at her useless brother but focused on her mother instead—after all, she was the one who gave her life.
"Mom, are you selling your daughter for glory? What era do you think this is? Do you really believe what you're doing is reasonable?"
Huang Xiang probably felt that Rao Jian's words were a bit harsh as well, her expression slightly awkward.
"Jie Jie, your parents are doing this for your own good. Your Uncle Hu and your dad are old classmates; their family is trustworthy. If we can form a connection with them, it would be a step up for us."
"Think about it: on one hand, it helps your brother succeed in his career, and on the other hand, you want to pursue graduate studies, right? If you get engaged now, you can continue studying for your master's degree. After graduation, you can get married; it would save you ten years of struggle compared to others. And if you don't want to work, it's fine—someone will take care of you! It's a win-win situation!"
"Actually, your dad and I have wanted to connect with their family for a long time. We were just waiting for you to graduate before making our move! But now your brother is in such a good position; we can't let this opportunity slip away. If we get engaged sooner, they will treat your brother like family."
Rao Jian chimed in, "If you keep refusing, Young Master Hu has seen so many beautiful women; it's already impressive that he likes you."
"Right! After our last meeting, Xiao Hu said he really liked you. If you agree, we can set the engagement date. He’s willing to wait until after your master's graduation to marry."
"Don't overthink it; just treat it like an arranged marriage. Isn't that popular these days? Xiao Hu has no flaws—he's good-looking, comes from a wealthy family, and is outstanding himself; he's already a director at his father's company. With such great conditions, what more could you want?"
Rao Jie closed her eyes. Even without the breakup with Bao Ming hanging over her head, she would never be with someone named Hu.
She still remembered how that guy had touched her the first time they met; he was nothing but a rogue.
"Absolutely not!" Rao Jie declared before turning to leave.
"How dare you walk away!" Rao Jian shouted angrily.
Rao Jie suddenly erupted, "Fine! I won't leave! But don't regret it when I make sure to offend your boss and Young Master at dinner tonight! If you're going to force me into this, then I won't hold back!"
No matter how good-tempered someone was, they couldn't withstand such repeated blows. She truly lost control; her head was spinning and her chest felt hot as if a volcano was about to erupt inside her.
Why was she so unlucky? Why did all the misfortunes come looking for her?
Rao Jian was momentarily speechless, staring wide-eyed at Rao Jie.
Huang Xiang was also getting angry; they had already made big promises and people were on their way over. If everything went smoothly today, they could finalize the engagement.
"Rao Jie, have you had enough of this? Do you only feel satisfied when this family falls apart? As your sister, how can you complain about a little inconvenience for your brother? Do you think Mom and Dad would harm you? Where else can you find such good conditions? Fine! If you're going to make a scene and leave, then go ahead! Just bring out five thousand dollars if you want to walk away! I won't stop you!"
