The door of the interrogation room was gently knocked on. Shen Jie stood up to open it, and outside stood Zhao Ziqiang, who quietly said to Shen Jie, "Captain, a male body has been recovered from the Luyang Bay River Section." Shen Jie immediately closed the door, leaving only Ji Qinchou and Du Zao in the interrogation room.
Du Zao paid no attention to Ji Qinchou; she hung her head low, exhausted, and leaned down to sleep.
"Why did you report Song Daoquan?"

"Then why expose yourself voluntarily?"

Outside, Zhao Ziqiang briefly explained the situation regarding the handling and transport of the body. Shen Jie nodded and said, "We'll wrap things up here soon. You must have worn gloves when you picked up that phone to avoid leaving fingerprints, right?"
"What does this kid mean?" Shen Jie pointed at Ji Qinchou's head with a grim expression. Shi Ya's eyes sparkled with a strange light. "I have a feeling he will uncover something new; let's give him a chance, okay? After all, he's someone you brought over from Yu's side; there should be some trust."
Shen Jie pulled out a cigarette pack from his pocket. "You go help record."
"Sure thing!"

"Answer my question."
"You are right; I did wear gloves."
Before she could finish her sentence, Ji Qinchou continued, "You chose to walk into the basement through an external entrance instead of taking the elevator mainly to avoid surveillance inside it. You only wanted Song Daoquan punished for killing his wife Zhang Yuzhen and mistreating their daughter Song Zheng; you didn't want to implicate yourself because killing one person is entirely different from killing two. Song Daoquan wouldn't voluntarily reveal that he also killed someone named Tang Wenshan. Is that how you thought?"
Du Zao smiled. "This handsome officer is really nice; you've said everything for me."
"That A4 paper with 'Tang Wenshan' written on it definitely has no fingerprints either?"
"Of course not; how could I make such a basic mistake?"
"Do you admit to all of the above?"
"I admit it; I confess to murder, but there's no need for me to lie about details."
"You are lying!" Ji Qinchou's tone pierced through the air like a needle into Du Zao's eardrum, causing her heart to race and her head to spin as she struggled to remain calm while listening to Ji Qinchou meticulously expose her flaws. "You chose an external entrance to avoid police investigation, yet there is a thick layer of dust at that entrance—about an inch thick. You went in and out once; two rows of footprints are clearly visible there with shoe patterns unmistakably clear. Being so cautious, didn’t you think about picking up a stick from nearby to sweep away some traces? You avoided surveillance in the elevator but didn’t check whether there were cameras at the external entrance beforehand or even glance back to see if there were indeed no cameras as you guessed. Most importantly, you admit that you wanted Song Daoquan caught for killing his wife, so why leave behind Tang Wenshan’s name for police to connect both murders? If a smart person suddenly does something foolish, they must have a purpose behind it. What is your intention in deliberately leaving these flaws? What truth do you want us to investigate?"
Du Zao's smile completely vanished as she silently met Ji Qinchou's sharp gaze, even showing signs of overwhelming him in terms of presence. Zhao Ziqiang had somehow stood beside Shen Jie, along with Li Shuo, Wang Yi'an, Wu Dian, and other members of the second team.
"It’s about Song Zheng, isn’t it?" Ji Qinchou's voice was like crushed powder, soft and powerless. She rented 2131 specifically for this purpose. At nine years old, she couldn’t protect her mother; at twenty-two, she accidentally discovered her mother’s body had been frozen for thirteen years. To seek justice for her, she had to temporarily move the freezer elsewhere to prevent Song Daoquan from destroying the evidence. Du Zao turned back and lazily said, "Since you've already found out about room 0102, then you must have found that knife by now?"
Ji Qinchou momentarily fell silent, unable to respond; this small crack was precisely captured by Du Zao.
"Ha, you tricked me! You haven't even been to room 0102!"
Ji Qinchou sought help from Shi Ya beside him. Shi Ya remained steady and took over the interrogation responsibility from Ji Qinchou. "We haven't had a chance to go yet, but since you've voluntarily disclosed the location of the murder weapon, we will send someone over immediately to search."
"To save you some effort, that knife isn't big; it's hidden in the plastic hose under the kitchen sink."
Du Zao was taken out of the interrogation room. Now everything was clearly laid out on the table: at the moment Du Zao confessed about Tang Wenshan's case and the murder weapon, Shen Jie had already dispatched Zhao Ziqiang and others along with forensic investigators to rush over and conduct a scene examination and search. Next, they just needed to follow leads to find evidence of Song Daoquan killing Song Zheng.
Generally speaking, police cannot detain a suspect for more than 24 hours without evidence; however, Article 61 of the Criminal Procedure Law states: Public security organs may detain individuals who are current offenders or major suspects under certain circumstances: (4) if they attempt suicide or flee after committing a crime; (5) if there is a possibility of destroying or fabricating evidence or colluding; (6) if they do not provide their real name or address and their identity is unclear; (7) if there is significant suspicion of committing crimes in multiple locations or repeatedly as part of a group.
Therefore, Shen Jie and his team still had ample time.
