I listened in shock, "How... how is this possible? What happened next?"
Fu Ting continued, "I have been secretly investigating this matter and finally discovered the truth. But just the day before I was ready to reveal it, you suddenly had a car accident and lost your memory. What shocked me even more was that you actually married Wu Ming."
"Wu Ming?" I frowned, "Does he have something to do with this?"
Fu Ting's expression became serious. "Wu Ming is that businessman, the one who killed his own wife."
I felt my mind go blank in an instant. Wu Ming... was actually the murderer. Why did I marry him? Could my car accident and memory loss be connected...?
"Fang Meng, are you okay?" Fu Ting looked at me with concern.
I took a few deep breaths, trying to calm myself down, "I'm fine. Dr. Fu, are you saying that my car accident might have been planned by Wu Ming?"
Fu Ting nodded, "I suspect so. He might have wanted to completely erase your memory so that you would never remember the truth."
Suddenly, I recalled Wu Ming's sneaky behavior and those bloody medical instruments. Everything started to make sense.
"So... what should I do?" I looked at Fu Ting helplessly.
Fu Ting held my hand, "We will gather evidence together to expose Wu Ming's crimes. But before that, you must be careful not to raise his suspicions."
I nodded, "I understand. Thank you, Dr. Fu."
"Just call me Fu Ting," he said gently, "I've been waiting for you, waiting for you to wake up. No matter what happens, I will stand by your side."
Even though I still couldn't remember the past, my intuition told me that I could trust him.
Just as we were about to leave, my phone suddenly rang. It was Wu Ming calling.
"Mengmeng, where are you? Why haven't you come back yet?" Wu Ming's tone sounded a bit impatient.
"I... I'll be back soon," I replied, forcing myself to sound calm.
After hanging up the phone, I hurriedly said goodbye to Fu Ting.
He urged me to be careful and agreed that we would contact each other in a special way in the future.
Back at the villa, Wu Ming was waiting for me in the living room. His expression was grim, and his gaze was sharp. "How did the test results turn out?"
"The doctor said everything is normal," I replied calmly, feigning tranquility.
Wu Ming stared at me for a moment before suddenly saying, "Mengmeng, I've been thinking that maybe we should go on a vacation. A change of environment might help with your memory recovery."
I was startled but nodded on the surface. "Sure, you can arrange it."
Watching Wu Ming leave with satisfaction, my heart raced. Did he really want to help me, or did he have other motives? I had to be more cautious in my responses.
That night, I lay in bed with my mind in turmoil. I recalled the truth that Fu Ting had told me and thought about Wu Ming's suspicious behavior. Would my memory ever come back?
As I was lost in thought, I suddenly heard faint footsteps outside my door. I held my breath and listened carefully. The footsteps stopped outside my room, followed by the sound of a key turning in the lock. My heart nearly stopped.
Someone was sneaking into my room in the middle of the night. Could it be Wu Ming? Or... someone else?
I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. The door creaked open gently, and someone walked in. I could feel that person standing by my bed for a moment before starting to rummage through my things.
I desperately controlled myself not to tremble or reveal any signs of awareness. The person seemed to be looking for something but did not find it. Finally, he let out a soft sigh and left the room.
Once the footsteps completely faded away, I dared to open my eyes.
My palms are already soaked with cold sweat. I must find out the truth as soon as possible, or my situation will become increasingly dangerous.
