**Chapter Four: The Rift in Time**
**Section One: The Other Side of the Rift**
The air inside the cave was heavy and damp as I cautiously made my way along the winding path, the light from my pocket watch appearing particularly faint in the darkness. As I ventured deeper, strange glowing patterns began to emerge on the walls of the cave, seemingly guiding me forward.
Suddenly, I heard a faint echo; it was Xia Mengxuan's voice, calling out for both Xia Zhiqing and me. My pace quickened, my heartbeat racing in response. Turning a corner, I saw a beam of bright light ahead.
I stepped out of the cave into a vast underground space, where a radiant Time Rift stood at its center. Xia Mengxuan was standing at the edge of the rift; though her face looked somewhat weary, there was a determined glimmer in her eyes.
"Grandfather!" Xia Mengxuan exclaimed upon seeing me, her face lighting up with surprise.
I hurried towards her, while vigilantly observing my surroundings. At that moment, I noticed a figure slowly emerging on the other side of the crack—it was my grandfather, his face bearing a complex expression, as if he were struggling with something.
"Be careful, Shi Yuan!" Xia Mengxuan suddenly shouted, "He is not the real grandfather!"
I was startled and stopped in my tracks. The figure began to twist and eventually transformed into someone I had never seen before. He wore the same attire as the black-clad figures, with a cold smile on his face.
"You think you can easily find your way here?" His voice echoed in the cave. "I am the Guardian of the Time Rift, and also your grandfather's old rival— Mo Yuan."
The appearance of Mo Yuan made my heart sink. His power was evidently immense, capable of manipulating the Time Rift and even mimicking others' appearances.
"Xia Mengxuan, you should not have returned," Mo Yuan turned to Xia Mengxuan, a glint of greed flashing in his eyes. "Your knowledge and power will be the key to my control over time and space."
Xia Mengxuan gripped the Astrolabe tightly in her hands; she knew that the knowledge she possessed was crucial for maintaining the balance of time and space and must not fall into Mo Yuan's hands.
"Shi Yuan, quickly use the pocket watch!" Xia Mengxuan shouted at me. "Only its power can seal this crack and stop Mo Yuan's scheme."
I swiftly took out the pocket watch, feeling it tremble in my palm. I focused my mind, trying to activate its power. The pocket watch began to emit an increasingly bright light, countering the glow of the Time Rift.
Seeing this, Mo Yuan let out a furious roar and launched an attack at us. Xia Mengxuan stepped forward, using the power of the Astrolabe to confront him. The space around the Time Rift began to distort, and energy fluctuations grew stronger.
At that moment, Xia Zhiqing arrived. She saw what was happening and joined the battle without hesitation. The combined strength of the three of us caused the light from the pocket watch and Astrolabe to grow brighter, gradually suppressing Mo Yuan's power.
Finally, with a powerful burst of energy, Mo Yuan was repelled, and the Time Rift began to slowly close. Mo Yuan roared from the other side of the crack, but his figure gradually disappeared into the closing rift.
We collapsed onto the ground, panting heavily. Xia Mengxuan looked at me and Xia Zhiqing with gratitude and pride in her eyes.
"We did it," she said softly, "We protected time and space."
