Fu Ting burst in with several police officers.
"Drop your weapon! Police!"
Wu Ming was startled by this sudden turn of events, and his handgun fell to the ground.
The police subdued Wu Ming and quickly placed handcuffs on him.
Fu Ting hurried over to my side and asked with concern, "Fang Meng, are you okay?"
I shook my head, feeling a wave of dizziness. "I'm fine, I'm just glad you're here."
Wu Liang stood dumbfounded nearby, seemingly still in shock.
I walked over and gently squeezed his shoulder. "Wu Liang, I'm sorry you had to see all of this."
Wu Liang looked up at me, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
This time, I understood what he meant. I shook my head and offered a gentle smile. "It's not your fault."
The police began to question us about the details of the case.
Fu Ting recounted the entire sequence of events in detail, including Wu Ming's illegal human experiments and the truth about him killing his wife.
As Wu Ming was taken away, his eyes were filled with resentment.
I didn't know if he was angry at fate for being unfair or if he regretted not killing me sooner.
But I knew that justice had finally been served.
Those he had harmed could finally find peace.
After the case was concluded, I felt utterly exhausted.
Fu Ting accompanied me to the hospital for a thorough check-up, confirming that I was physically alright.
"Fang Meng, what are your plans moving forward?" Fu Ting asked gently.
I looked out at the sunlight streaming through the window and felt a long-lost sense of ease. "I think I need some time to rest and heal properly. If I can regain my memory... well, maybe I'll pick up the scalpel again. After all, that's the real me."
Fu Ting held my hand. "Whatever decision you make, I will support you."
"Thank you, Fu Ting," I said with a smile. "Thank you for never giving up on me."
I leaned on his shoulder, the sunlight was extremely warm. I knew that life was turning a new page.
One year later.
On a sunny afternoon, I stood at the door of the operating room, taking a deep breath. Today was my first day back in surgery, and I felt both nervous and excited.
"Are you ready?" Fu Ting's gentle voice came from behind me.
I turned to look at him and smiled confidently, "I'm ready." This time, I would use my hands to save lives instead of being defeated by the lingering shadows.
Fu Ting nodded, pride shining in his eyes: "I believe in you, Fang Meng. Go ahead and show your talent."
I took a deep breath and pushed open the door to the operating room. The familiar smell of disinfectant hit me, bringing a sense of nostalgia.
Standing in front of the operating table, I looked at the patient lying there, and a strong sense of mission rose within me.
"Scalpel." I extended my hand, and the nurse immediately handed me the scalpel.
I held the scalpel, feeling its weight and coldness. In that moment, I seemed to return to that fateful turning point from a year ago. But this time, I was no longer a passive victim; I was the master of my own destiny.
The surgery went very smoothly. I took off my mask and looked at the admiring gazes of my colleagues around me, filled with a sense of accomplishment.
As I walked out of the operating room, Fu Ting was waiting for me outside. He gave me a warm hug. Just then, I saw Wu Liang walking toward us. Over the past year, he had changed a lot; he was no longer that rebellious and willful boy.
"Was the surgery successful?" Wu Liang asked somewhat awkwardly.
I smiled and nodded, "Everything went smoothly. By the way, how did your entrance exam go?"
Wu Liang's eyes lit up instantly, "I passed! I got accepted into medical school!"
"That's great!" I genuinely felt happy for him, "I believe you will become an excellent doctor."
Wu Liang smiled shyly, "I have to thank you and Uncle Gu. If it weren't for your encouragement and guidance, I might never have thought about studying medicine."
Looking at Wu Liang's determined gaze, I felt a sense of comfort.
The past resentment and misunderstandings had vanished, replaced by understanding and support.
"Alright, let's go celebrate," Fu Ting suggested, "for Fang Meng's successful surgery and for Wu Liang's acceptance."
The three of us exchanged smiles and walked out of the hospital together.
The night breeze gently blew, bringing the fragrance of jasmine in the air.
I knew this was the taste of happiness.
