I seem to have been reborn.
Wearing a set of tattered clothes, my hands are covered in calluses. When I was next to Si Xiang, she loved to hold my hand because, despite my bony fingers, my hands were as smooth as jade.
My thoughts were interrupted by a rough tug. A coarse-looking woman grabbed my collar and gritted her teeth, saying, "You little bastard, I provided for you and now you refuse to marry into my family?"
"Marry into your family?"
I was taken aback for a moment before realizing it was that human trafficker. The woman grabbed my hair and said viciously, "Don't push your luck. I've already taken the money your brother paid for the house; you must come with me!"
"What good is studying? In the end, you still have to earn money to buy your brother a house!"
I was being dragged along, forgetting to struggle, allowing her to pull me several meters away, my clothes tearing and pain shooting through me.
I snapped back to reality and began to break free. But this body was too weak; I couldn't match the woman's strength. Dark memories surged in my mind, and I trembled as I reached into my backpack, trying to find that pen. Just as my fingertips brushed against the metal, a familiar voice rang out.
"Human trafficker?"
It was Si Nian. Her voice was as flamboyant as ever. My eyes instantly stung with tears, and my throat felt blocked, making me uncomfortable.
Si Nian frowned and asked, "What are you going crazy about now?"
The woman brightened upon seeing Si Nian and immediately put on a smile: "Why is Miss Jin here today?"
Si Nian impatiently shook off her hand and pulled out a check from her backpack, casually signing her name.
"I told you this check is for you to use; don't disturb her life anymore."
The woman's face lit up at the sight of the check.
But the next second, she pretended to be difficult: "Xiao Jin, this money probably isn't enough, right?"
"Then add this."
Si Nian took off the ring from her hand and was about to hand it over when I snatched it away.
Seeing this, the woman raised her hand as if to hit me, but it didn't come down.
Because I was holding a pen, the tip pointed directly at her eye.
"You dare!"
I sneered, "Since you don't care about me as your son, I don't mind treating you like an enemy."
"At worst, we’ll die together!"
The woman was startled by me; she didn't expect that I, who had always been weak, would dare to resist.
But she still wouldn't give up: "I am your mother!"
"So what?"
I looked at her expressionlessly: "If you dare to harass me again, I'll slash your face."
"If you don't believe me, you can try."
I deliberately pushed the pen tip forward, and a flicker of fear crossed the woman's face as she hurriedly stepped back.
While retreating, she said harsh words: "Just wait for me!"
After saying that, she ran off without looking back.
I watched her figure until I confirmed she had really left before putting away the pen.
I looked up at Si Nian.
Si Nian felt embarrassed under my gaze and raised her hand to touch her face: "Why are you staring at me? Is there something on my face?"
I shook my head.
I just thought she looked exactly like Si Xiang.
But unlike her, Si Nian wasn't so cold; there was no disgust or sarcasm in her eyes, only curiosity and confusion.
Si Nian blushed under my gaze and touched her nose: "You didn't discover that I'm pretty, did you? That's why you can't take your eyes off me?"
I still didn't say anything, just quietly looked at her.
She looked into my eyes, the corners of her mouth curling into a slight arc as she smiled and said, "Your physique isn't great, but your courage is quite something. You even dare to bring out a weapon?"
I remained silent.
She stared at me, suddenly taken aback.
"Why are you crying...?"
