"It's warmer this way; I'm a bit cold." 0
Si Nian obediently let me hold her. 0
The scent of the girl lingered at the tip of my nose. 0
I heard my own voice trembling, " Si Nian...?" 0
"Why haven't you been caring about me these past few days?" 0
"Because I had some matters to deal with," Si Nian replied helplessly. 0
She paused for a moment, "Also, my parents took me back to the the Si Family these past few days. I was afraid you would worry if you couldn't find me, so I kept trying to find a way to get out. In the end, I swapped identities with Si Xiang. I was so hungry that I looked just as sickly as she did before I managed to come out." 0
I: "..." 0
No wonder I thought Si Nian looked so thin earlier. 0
Si Nian hesitated for a few seconds, "Gao Ming, how did you recognize me?" 0
I smiled, "As long as I see you, I can recognize you immediately." 0
"Why?" 0
"Because I'm afraid of mistaking you again and never being able to find you." 0
Si Nian looked confused, "What do you mean?" 0
I didn't answer. 0
Si Nian didn't press further either. 0
Old Zhang received the news and rushed over, red-eyed, comforting me for a while before taking Si Nian away. 0
Just as she was being taken away, she turned back and asked, "Gao Ming, do you really trust me?" 0
I answered, "I'm like a wooden man; once I believe in something, I won't mistake you again." 0
Si Nian was stunned for a moment before shaking her head and sighing, "What a strange stubborn person." 0
In the following days, Si Nian stayed at school. 0
Old Zhang urged her to start studying high school subjects again. 0
It was said that as an older sister, she needed to set a good example for her younger sister. 0

I wanted to refuse, but when I met her gaze, the words that were on the tip of my tongue got swallowed back down. She sighed and nodded, "Alright, alright, I'll listen to you." 0

Most of the knowledge from high school, Si Nian had basically returned to her teachers. Especially in the humanities, it was simply pitiful. When Old Zhang was teaching her Chinese, he got so angry that he picked up a stick as if he wanted to hit her: "How can you be so stupid? You can't even get such a simple question right!" 0

Si Nian hung her head, sitting there obediently and listening seriously to Old Zhang's scolding. But her obedience lasted only three seconds before she started making faces at me again. Her eyes seemed to say: I'm not going to change. 0

I remembered what Old Zhang once told me. "Si Xiang and Si Nian are like fire and ice. The fiery one is Si Nian; she looks silent and reserved, but inside she's full of rebellious thoughts and doesn't listen to anyone." 0

I shared this with her. "That's true," she chuckled softly. 0

Si Nian's lively demeanor was much more vivid than the cold words on a blank page. Suddenly, I felt that this vibrant Si Nian should always remain this way. I wanted to do more for Si Nian. 0

Si Nian went to visit the family of the Vegetative State Boy. The Si Family covered all the medical expenses, and Si Nian would also visit regularly. However, every time the boy's family would chase her away. Despite this, Si Nian remained steadfast and would go every so often without fail. She would drop off things and leave without lingering. 0

One day, when Si Nian was being kicked out, I blocked the door that was about to close with my hand. Ignoring the pain of my hand being pinched red, I spoke earnestly: "Uncle, Auntie, just give me a few minutes to say a few words. I promise I'll leave right after." The boy's parents softened their attitude and didn't push me away anymore. 0

I quickly spoke up, "I know that you have deep hostility towards Si Nian and believe that your child’s incident is largely her fault." 0
"But in fact, she is truly wronged." 0
"Why would a wronged person be deemed the culprit by everyone?" 0
I looked at them steadily, my gaze clear and calm. 0
Before they could respond, I answered my own question: "Because no one understands her; they don't know her character." 0
"Today, I want to tell you a story." 0
I handed over the voice recorder, saying, "You can listen for yourselves." 0
The boy's parents exchanged glances and eventually took the recorder, pressing the play button. 0
"Although Si Nian can be a bit rough around the edges, she has a good heart. Whenever she sees someone in trouble, she always lends a hand." 0
"Everyone in our dorm has been helped by Si Nian. Even though she doesn't say much, we all know it." 0
"When I first became friends with Si Nian, I thought she was a bit naive. If someone treated her well, she would reciprocate wholeheartedly." 0
"People like her can easily get taken advantage of. But she doesn’t care; she continues to be this way every time." 0
"The longer I’ve been friends with her, the more I realize how wonderful she truly is. Kind, sincere, and straightforward—every good word fits her perfectly." 0
"Si Nian has never been a calm or rational person. She values emotions deeply; as long as we ask her for help, she will do anything for us." 0
"With her around, we don’t have to worry about anything. She takes care of everything so we can enjoy ourselves without a care." 0
"I've always been grateful that I took the initiative to greet her back then. Otherwise, I might have lost such a good friend." 0
The voice recorder played back various voices, each sentence praising Si Nian and each segment expressing trust in her. 0
