The boy's parents grew increasingly uneasy as they listened. The words on the recording device were completely different from what they had learned about Si Nian. The Si Nian they heard was irritable, angry, and behaved poorly, a troublemaker. But the Si Nian on the recording was sincere, kind, and treated others exceptionally well.
"Did he deceive us?" the boy's mother whispered to his father.
I forced a smile and said, "The recording device is in your hands. If you have doubts, you can always make a copy and ask the people in the recording for clarification."
The boy's parents were not fools. They could tell that the gratitude expressed by those people in the recording towards Si Nian was genuine. The boy's mother broke down first, covering her face and crying uncontrollably. The boy's father also reddened his eyes.
They knew that their son's situation had nothing to do with Si Nian. But as an ordinary family facing their son's enormous medical bills, they could only come up with such a desperate plan. Using the title of victim's family member, they aimed to pressure Si Nian into stepping forward so that the Si Family would cover their medical expenses.
The boy's mother cried, "We are sorry for her."
I lowered my gaze and said, "I know you are also left with no choice."
The boy's father sniffed and asked hoarsely, "Does she not blame us?"
She raised her eyes seriously and said, "I will clarify this matter, but I hope you can join me."
"Only when your son wakes up can Si Nian completely rid herself of these baseless accusations."
The boy's parents looked troubled. "But no one believes us..."
They suddenly paused and cautiously glanced at me.
I maintained a calm expression and said, "I understand; just go ahead and clarify."
I stood up to leave, but as I reached the door, the boy's father suddenly called out to me.
Hesitantly, he asked, "Why are you trying so hard to prove her innocence?"
I curled my lips into a shallow smile and said, "I just want Si Nian to be able to walk in the sunlight openly."
Si Nian had not left, leaning against the wall outside the hospital room with her arms crossed.
It wasn't until I finished talking to the couple that she pretended nothing was wrong and came over.
"Sorry to interrupt you," she said.
The couple was momentarily at a loss. Faced with Si Nian's sincere face, they found it hard to continue blaming her.
Si Nian didn't say much to them either and simply took me away.
I followed closely behind Si Nian, resembling a pitiful little tail.
After walking a few steps, Si Nian suddenly stopped and turned her head to look at me.
I looked up in confusion and met Si Nian's dark pupils.
"What's wrong with your hand?"
"Huh?" It dawned on me that when I had blocked the couple earlier, my hand had gotten caught in the door.
I quickly hid my hand in my pocket and replied softly, "It's nothing, just an accident."
Si Nian frowned. "Gao Ming, are you an idiot?"
I blinked in confusion.
"Can't you even protect yourself?" Si Nian's voice was cold.
I fell silent, unsure of what to say.
Si Nian glanced at me and then walked forward.
I was momentarily stunned but quickly reacted and hurried to catch up with her.
Si Nian took me to see the doctor, maintaining a cold expression throughout.
As the doctor treated my wound, Si Nian stared intently without blinking.
The doctor's hand trembled slightly, almost on the verge of tears.
She couldn't help but plead for me, saying, "Si Nian, don't worry, he isn't in pain."
Si Nian glanced at her coldly and said, "Shut up."
The doctor remained silent.
What had she done to deserve this?
After leaving the hospital, I finally found a chance to talk to Si Nian. "Did you go out today?"
Si Nian looked straight ahead and replied lightly, "Yeah."
"They said they believe in you."
"I know."
"You know?" I exclaimed in surprise, my eyes widening.
Si Nian nodded.
I hesitated for a few seconds and asked her, "Don't you feel surprised?"
Si Nian scoffed, "Why should I be surprised?"
"They believe in you!"
"They believe in me not because I'm not the perpetrator, but because I gave them a reason to keep going. They hate me, which is why they can hold on for so long."
I frowned, "You know all this?"
Si Nian lowered her gaze and smirked coldly, "How could I not know? I'm not a saint."
