Early the next morning, the doorbell rang at home. With two big dark circles under my eyes and a tired expression, I opened the door. Shen Yulin stood upright at the entrance and said, "Good morning." He smiled sarcastically, "Star, what do you mean by 'morning'? What time is it?" I didn’t respond and went back to my room, closing the door to continue sleeping.
In a daze, I heard some noises coming from outside, seemingly from the kitchen. I thought to myself, could he really be cooking? But the heavy drowsiness soon overwhelmed me again, and I turned over to continue sleeping.
I don’t know how long later, I was awakened by a delicious aroma. My stomach growled as I followed the scent to the living room, where I saw a lavish breakfast spread out on the dining table. Shen Yulin came out of the kitchen with the last dish and said with a smile, "Freshen up and come eat, lazy bug." I hurried into the bathroom, washed up haphazardly, and sat down at the dining chair, feeling a bit embarrassed as I asked, "Where's Auntie?"
"My brother took Sister-in-law out early this morning. He called me and said you were still sleeping, so he asked me to come over and cook for you."
As I bit into a chicken wing, I looked at him suspiciously and asked, "Don’t you bosses have to work? You seem so free."
"As long as it's about you, I'm always free." After saying that, he gave me a suggestive glance that sent a chill down my spine. "Does your brother know you're this flirty?"
"Flirting with you? My brother doesn’t mind."
After a hearty meal, I slumped on the sofa and rubbed my bulging belly, feeling like I could still eat more. Shen Yulin finished washing the dishes and sat down beside me. "What do you want to do this afternoon?" he asked while pulling me close. I shyly shifted away to avoid his embrace. His hand stiffened before he gently let go. "I don’t know what to do this afternoon; let’s just rest."
"How about I take you to see a movie?"
"Sure! Any good films to recommend?"
"Just follow my lead."
"Alright. I'll go change my clothes." After changing, I came out of my room to find Shen Yulin leaning against the doorframe, looking me up and down with a smile and nodding approvingly. "Let’s go," he said naturally as he took my hand and we headed out.
At the cinema, he bought tickets and led me into the screening room. After we sat down, he handed me a cup of cola and a bucket of popcorn. The movie started; it was a romance film where the male and female leads finally got together after going through various hardships.
I was moved to tears and turned to look at Shen Yulin only to find him staring intently at me. "Why are you looking at me?" I wiped my tears away.
"Because..." he leaned closer to my ear and whispered softly, "I feel like we’re just like the couple in the movie." My face flushed instantly, and my heart raced; thankfully it was dark around us so no one noticed my blush.
After the movie ended, we walked out of the cinema. "Thank you for today," I said with my head down.
"Thank me for what?" he replied with a mischievous smile.
"Thank you for accompanying me to watch the movie." I looked up and met his deep gaze.
"So how are you going to repay me?" he raised an eyebrow.
My heart raced even faster as I stammered, "I..." Suddenly he leaned down and gently kissed my lips, saying softly, "That’s enough."
"Yulin!" A cheerful voice called out; I heard someone shouting Shen Yulin's name and quickly pushed him away to stand properly. Shen Yulin lifted his eyelids impatiently and looked toward the person calling him. A figure ran over and directly hugged Shen Yulin's arm.
I focused my gaze and saw that it was a beautiful blonde girl dressed in designer clothes with exquisite makeup. "What are you doing here?" Shen Yulin's tone was somewhat cold.
"I happened to be shopping nearby and saw you!" The girl said with a bright smile but her gaze fell on me. "Is this your fiancée?"
