Crying, I gradually fell asleep. Shen Yulin silently got up to close the door and then returned to the sofa, smoking one cigarette after another. He didn't understand why he was so impulsive, changing his flight just to accompany the person he loved. But after getting off the plane, he received a video of Lu Yi walking into the room with me, and he felt like a cat with its fur bristled, ready to attack at any moment. Now, he felt deeply regretful.
Would the stars forgive him this time?
Shen Yulin sat on the sofa all night, surrounded by cigarette butts. When dawn broke, he got up and left the room. Meanwhile, I was in the room, my furrowed brows slowly relaxing in my sleep. The morning meeting proceeded as usual, but I was absent-minded, staring blankly at the screen while my thoughts were a complete void. After the meeting ended, I packed my things and returned to the hotel. Shen Yulin was waiting for me on the first floor of the hotel. When he saw me get out of the car, he walked over. The other three people saw him and politely greeted him before heading upstairs. I stood in front of him quietly without saying a word. His eyes held a hint of guilt: "Xingxing, about last night... I'm sorry, I misunderstood you." I looked up at him, my gaze unfocused and indifferent.
"I lost my mind after seeing that video. I know I shouldn't have doubted you; I..." He lowered his head like a child who had done something wrong.
"If there's nothing else, I'm going upstairs," I said. Shen Yulin seemed to want to say something more, but I no longer wanted to listen. I turned and took the elevator back to my room. Once inside, I closed the door and walked straight to the bed, collapsing onto it. Tears flowed down again uncontrollably. I couldn't find words to describe how I felt—sad? heartbroken? angry? It was hard to distinguish between what was real and what was not.
At that moment, my phone rang suddenly; it was a call from my father. I adjusted my emotions and answered it. He asked when I would be home. I lied and said work wasn't finished yet and that I'd be back tomorrow night. After hanging up, I felt exhausted—physically and mentally drained. I wanted to take a break from everything and temporarily forget these troubles. Director Gu sent out a notice: starting tomorrow, we would have time off for everyone to do as they please; we would return to B City the day after tomorrow morning. I replied that I received it, thought for a moment about packing my bags, and took a taxi home overnight.
Once home, I collapsed onto the sofa. My father looked at me in confusion and asked, "Didn't you say you'd be back tomorrow night?"
"I received a sudden notice; we start our break tomorrow and won't return to B City until the day after tomorrow. I just wanted to come back and see you." Perhaps because I was too tired, even speaking made me keep my eyes closed.
"Go sleep in your room; I'll call your aunt's family tomorrow so we can have dinner together." I nodded slightly and moved my weary body into the bedroom without changing clothes, collapsing onto the bed where I quickly fell asleep.
In a hazy state, I felt someone holding me gently, stroking my hair. Struggling to open my eyes, I realized it was Shen Yulin. He looked at me with eyes full of tenderness. "Xingxing, I'm wrong; will you forgive me?" he said softly.
I didn't respond but simply gazed at him quietly. He sighed and continued, "I know my behavior yesterday was excessive and made you feel wronged. But after seeing that video, I really couldn't control my emotions. I care about you too much; that's why I acted so impulsively."
I remained silent but felt somewhat moved inside. Seeing this, Shen Yulin hugged me tighter. "Xingxing, give me a chance to make up for my mistakes."
"Please leave; this is my room; it's inappropriate for you to be here." Seeing my calm expression, Shen Yulin stiffened his body and slowly walked out of the room.
