At that moment, the music in the bar suddenly stopped, and the swaying crowd parted. Zhang Yun and Cheng Haifeng rushed towards us, while Shen Yulin strode over with a cold gaze, exuding an icy aura. "Let her go!" His deep voice was filled with anger as he kicked the white-haired man in the chest, sending him flying. The other three men quickly released Shiqing and Wen Ting.
Shen Yulin and Cheng Haifeng swiftly took down the four men and then walked over to me, holding me tightly in his arms. "I'm sorry I'm late," he said, his voice full of guilt. I buried my face in his chest, tears streaming down uncontrollably. Shiqing had consumed a lot of alcohol and had fallen into a stupor. Wen Ting and Zhang Yun took her to the hospital, while Shen Yulin picked me up and coldly told Cheng Haifeng, "You handle the rest." With that, he carried me out of the bar.
Shen Yulin held me close as we silently exited the bar. His car was parked not far away, and when the driver saw him carrying me out, he immediately drove over. I buried my head deep in his embrace, silently crying. At that moment, I realized that when faced with real danger, all I could think about was him—only him. I didn't know if I looked disheveled or if my makeup was ruined; all I wanted was to stay in his arms, inhaling the familiar scent of vanilla and feeling the warmth he provided.
Sitting in the car, I remained in Shen Yulin's embrace as my emotions gradually calmed down. Slowly, I lifted my head and softly called out, "Shen Yulin." He was looking out the window with his head tilted, his cold aura still lingering until he heard my voice and relaxed slightly. "Are you still feeling unwell?"
"I'm fine now," I shook my head. Perhaps I had been in his arms for too long; my legs felt increasingly numb. I wanted to get up but found myself firmly locked in his embrace. "My legs are numb," I said restlessly, shifting my body. "Don't move," he frowned slightly as if holding back something. "My legs are numb, Shen Yulin," I repeated.
He buried his head in my shoulder. "Don't move for just a minute; let me catch my breath." Suddenly, I felt something unusual beneath me and froze completely. "Xingxing, if this continues, I'm afraid I really won't be able to hold back," he said, sounding both frustrated and embarrassed.
The atmosphere in the car grew increasingly awkward; the driver seemed to sense it and opened the partition between the front and back seats. After a while, Shen Yulin slowly placed me back on the seat and let out a deep breath. Seeing his expression made me awkwardly turn my head towards the window.
It wasn't until we drove towards Lijing Chengyuan that I realized we weren't heading home. "Are you taking me to Chengyuan?"
"I'm worried about you living alone like this."
"I'm fine now."
"Listen to me, Xingxing. You promised that on your birthday you would only belong to me." I didn't say anything more; after all, this was something I had already agreed to.
When we arrived at Lijing Chengyuan and opened the door, I looked around. "Where's Aunt Chen?"
"I gave her two days off."
"Then who will cook for us?"
"I'll cook for you."
"You can cook?" I looked at him skeptically.
"Don't worry; you won't starve," he said playfully pushing my forehead with his finger.
"Is it still that room? Is that okay?"
"Yeah, it's fine." With that, he led me up to the third floor to that familiar room. "You can wash up first; I have some documents that need urgent attention." I nodded as I watched him leave the room.
Standing at the bathroom door, I suddenly remembered that I hadn't brought any change of clothes but felt too shy to tell Shen Yulin. After hesitating for a long time for fear of interrupting him at work, I decided to send him a message instead when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in." Shen Yulin opened the door. "I forgot to tell you; there are women's clothes in the wardrobe for going out, and there are also clean clothes for you in the bottom drawer—all prepared for you by Aunt Chen." After saying this, he closed the door and left.
