After finishing breakfast, we returned to our room for a short rest. I asked Aunt Guo for a map of H City and then headed to a nearby ski resort. The resort was crowded, but Shen Yulin had already booked a private instructor for me, allowing me to fully enjoy the fun of skiing.
Under the coach's guidance, I quickly mastered the basic skiing techniques and raced down the slopes with Shen Yulin. We played around and laughed together.
"I'm going to the restroom; wait for me here," Shen Yulin said as he followed the coach to the bathroom. I nodded and found myself bored, squatting in place and drawing circles in the snow. A shadow fell over me, and when I looked up, I saw a girl. She took off her goggles and smiled at me. "Hi, I’m staying at that same guesthouse as you. I just saw a coach teaching you how to ski and didn't want to interrupt."
"Hello," I said, extending my hand for a shake. "Where's that handsome guy with you?" She looked around but couldn't find Shen Yulin. "He went to the restroom."
"Oh, I see. I'm here alone in H City; it's my first time skiing, and I'm a bit scared."
"You came alone?"
"Yeah, I'm here to relax. It's one of those spontaneous trips."
"That's impressive," I couldn't help but exclaim.
"Can I join you guys? Having someone with me would make me less scared."
"I..." Just as I was about to respond, Shen Yulin's cold voice came from behind me. "Not really convenient." The girl looked disappointed, and I felt a pang of sympathy for her being alone and not very safe. "How about you ski with us? But we can't hang out together at other times."
"Thank you so much! My name is Meili; what's yours?"
"I'm called Star."
"Wow, your name is beautiful! Can I call you Xingxing?" Meili enthusiastically linked her arm with mine.
"Sure."
Since Meili also didn't know how to ski, I asked the private coach to teach her as well. Shen Yulin stopped nearby, a complex look flashing in his eyes.
With Meili joining us, it became a bit challenging for the coach to teach both of us alone. Shen Yulin suggested he teach me while the coach taught Meili. We stood at the starting point of the slope; looking at the steep hill made a hint of fear rise within me. "Are you scared?" Shen Yulin asked as he held my hand. I took a deep breath and told him I wanted to try bravely once. "Then I'll ski with you." "Okay." Carefully aligning my skis, I tried hard to maintain my balance and slowly moved forward.
The first few days went relatively smoothly, but as my speed increased, my body began to lose control. "Star, remember to breathe," Shen Yulin reminded me. I struggled to adjust my posture in an attempt to regain balance but found it increasingly difficult to control my direction. Suddenly, I stumbled and fell into the snow. "Are you okay?" Shen Yulin stopped his skis and hurried over to help me up, brushing off the snow from my clothes. Although it hurt a bit, I quickly got back up and bravely challenged myself again. "Do you want to take a break?" Shen Yulin looked at me with concern, but I shook my head, wanting to return to the starting point and keep trying.
After several falls and getting back up again, I gradually mastered some skiing skills. I learned how to control my speed, how to turn, and how to maintain balance on uneven snow. Each small progress filled me with excitement. When I finally skied down the slope successfully, the sense of achievement and joy was indescribable.
I excitedly looked at Shen Yulin; he smiled and gave me a thumbs-up. Glancing around in excitement, I noticed Meili and the coach not far away—Meili was awkwardly shuffling her feet while the coach patiently stood beside her. However, Meili seemed reluctant to talk to him; she hardly responded to anything he said.
