Time always seems to pass more quickly while traveling than during work. In the blink of an eye, only a few days remain of my five-day vacation. Although I have a month off to travel slowly, Zhang Yun and Cheng Haifeng do not. On the last day, we found ourselves almost entirely in the car, rushing back to B City.
By the time we returned to B City, it was already midnight. I followed Shen Yulin to Chengyuan, where Aunt Chen had long since gone to bed. We tiptoed into the room, careful not to disturb her. After casually dropping our luggage and washing up briefly, we embraced and fell asleep. Fatigue quickly overtook me, and I drifted into dreams. In my dream, Shen Yulin and I continued our romantic journey, traversing mountains and lakes, creating beautiful memories.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the window and warmed my face. I slowly opened my eyes to see Shen Yulin sleeping peacefully beside me. I gently stroked his cheek, feeling his warmth and filling my heart with happiness. After getting up, we had breakfast together. Shen Yulin left for work while I stayed home watching TV. Suddenly, my phone rang; it was a call from my aunt. As soon as I answered, I heard her anxious and urgent voice on the other end: "Xiao Fan, where are you?"
"I'm at Shen Yulin's house. What's wrong?"
"Xiao Fan, your dad suddenly has heart problems and is now in the hospital undergoing emergency treatment..."
My aunt's call felt like a bolt from the blue. I stood frozen with my phone in hand. "Xiao Fan, are you listening? Xiao Fan?" My aunt called out urgently from the other end. I snapped back to reality and quickly replied, "Auntie, I'm packing up now and will head back right away." After hanging up, I rushed into the room, grabbed a few sets of clothes to stuff into my backpack, and headed for the door. Aunt Chen grabbed my arm and asked, "Xingxing, where are you going? What happened?"
"Aunt Chen, my dad suddenly has heart problems and is in emergency care. I need to go back to City Z immediately."
Upon hearing this news, Aunt Chen did not try to stop me any longer. Watching me leave the house, she quickly called Shen Yulin: "Hello, young master. Xingxing just packed her bags to return to City Z; she said her father is hospitalized and in emergency care... Yes... She just left; okay." On the other end of the line, Shen Yulin learned about the situation and after giving Aunt Chen a few instructions, hung up the phone and hurriedly put on his coat before rushing out.
As he exited his office, he ran into Cheng Haifeng who was coming to report something to him. "Mr. Shen, where are you going? There's a meeting soon."
"I'm heading back to City Z; Xingxing's father is hospitalized. I'll leave this in your hands." After saying this, Shen Yulin stepped into the elevator and disappeared from the 28th floor.
Shen Yulin drove fast along the road, constantly overtaking cars and running red lights; his only thought was to reach the airport as quickly as possible. Finally, he spotted me at the security check near the boarding gate.
"Xingxing!" he called out. I turned around to see Shen Yulin looking disheveled but determined as he stood there holding a ticket; in that moment, I understood that he already knew everything.
"I'll accompany you back," he said. I nodded in agreement while silently praying for my father's safety.
"Don't worry; your dad is healthy; he'll be fine," Shen Yulin assured me as he tightly held my hand and continued comforting me.
As the plane descended slowly, I couldn't wait to rush toward the exit. Once we exited the airport, we hailed a taxi that sped down the highway like a whirlwind; my anxiety grew with each passing moment. Finally, we arrived at the hospital entrance. Throwing open the car door, I dashed into the hospital lobby straight toward the elevator, pressing the button for our floor while keeping my eyes glued to the changing numbers on the display screen.
