"Thank you, Brother Yulin," I said as I leaned against him. "Don't worry, I'll stay with you," he replied gently, a hint of deep affection flickering in his eyes. A warm current surged within me; in the quiet hospital room, even the sound of a pin dropping could be heard clearly. Just as our lips were about to touch, my father murmured, moved his fingers, and slowly opened his eyes.
"Dad!" I exclaimed excitedly, rushing to his bedside.
"Xiao Fan..." My father's voice was weak, but upon seeing me, a look of relief spread across his face. Shen Yulin also approached, looking at my father with concern. "How are you feeling, Uncle?" he asked. My father nodded slightly, "I just had a little something to eat and took a nap. I'm feeling much better... Thank you both for your hard work."
"As long as you're okay," Shen Yulin said. My father looked at us, his eyes filled with emotion. "Dad, you're finally awake; I was so scared," I said, grasping my father's hand and bursting into tears of joy. He patted my hand gently, "Silly child, don't cry. I'm fine now, aren't I?"
At that moment, Shen Yulin spoke up, "Uncle, please rest well; Xiao Fan and I will take good care of you." My father waved his hand dismissively, "I'm fine now; you both should go home and rest."
Shen Yulin also urged me to go home and rest while he stayed to keep watch over my father. "You should go back; it's not convenient for a girl to be here," my father agreed. Reluctantly, I said goodbye to my father and promised to bring him congee in the morning. He smiled and waved me off to return home. I stood up and walked out of the hospital room with Shen Yulin. After he dropped me off at home, I let him wash up and gave him a clean set of my father's clothes to change into before asking him to take some of my father's clothes back to the hospital.
Watching him leave, a warm feeling rose in my heart. Once back home, I quickly washed up and lay down on my bed, reflecting on everything that had happened that day. Although my father's illness worried me greatly, having Shen Yulin by my side brought me comfort; I hoped for my father's speedy recovery. Gradually, I drifted off to sleep and dreamed of my father being healthy again, happily living with us...
The next day, I woke up early and opened the fridge to find some vegetables left at home; I decided to make a bowl of vegetable congee for my father. Skillfully rinsing the rice clean, I placed it in a pot with an appropriate amount of water and lit the gas stove. While waiting for the congee to cook, I washed the vegetables and chopped them into small pieces. Before long, the congee began to bubble; I carefully lifted the lid and stirred it a few times before adding the chopped vegetables. Finally, I added a bit of salt and sesame oil to enhance the flavor.
Once the congee was ready, I took it to the hospital and first asked Shen Yulin to step out for breakfast.
When my father saw me arrive, a look of relief spread across his face. I handed him the congee and watched as he slowly drank it down. After finishing the congee, he said, "This congee is really delicious; my daughter has grown up and knows how to take care of people." Hearing my father's praise made me feel incredibly happy. At that moment, Shen Yulin returned with some fruit. We spent some time chatting with my father until the doctor came for rounds; he said my father's recovery was going well but that he still couldn't get up and walk around yet.
After the rounds were done, my aunt and Uncle also arrived at the ward; she suggested that I go home and rest while they stayed with him. Shen Yulin first took me back home; on the way back, we talked a lot. He reassured me not to worry too much; my father would definitely get better. Gratefully, I glanced at him and asked, "Are you going back home today?"
"Yeah, since I'm back now, I need to go back for a bit."
