After several hours of flight, the plane finally landed smoothly on the soil of B City. As the cabin door slowly opened, a familiar scent rushed towards us the moment we stepped out. It was the unique aroma of my hometown, carrying a hint of moisture and warmth that lifted my spirits.
Stepping out of the airport hall, I was greeted by a cacophony of sounds—car horns, people chatting, and the distant clamor from the streets all intertwined to create a unique urban symphony. Everything before me felt so familiar and dear, as if it were telling us endless stories and showcasing the vitality of this city.
Although I felt a bit hesitant, I ultimately chose to follow Shen Yulin back to Chengyuan. As night fell and the lights began to shine, we lay side by side on the soft, comfortable bed. Shen Yulin gently embraced me, his head nestled in the crook of my neck, softly saying, "Xinbao, I've really missed you these days."
I couldn't help but feel a bit surprised and asked in confusion, "Aren't we together every day?" Just then, I noticed a subtle glimmer of desire in Shen Yulin's eyes. He then whispered, "But you promised to make it up to me..."
That night, I was kept awake by Shen Yulin until dawn before finally falling into a deep sleep.
This month-long paid leave had finally come to an end. When I returned to my workstation, I discovered that my colleagues had all changed; everyone around me was unfamiliar except for Director Gu, who had not been reassigned. He invited me into his office for tea. Sitting on the sofa, he sighed and said, "The company has an annual opportunity for position adjustments right after May Day. You missed it because you took leave; everyone else applied for different positions. The colleagues you see now have all been transferred from other roles." Shocked yet relieved that I had taken leave, I hadn't expected Shen Yulin's company to have such a humane policy. After sitting for a while longer, I got up to get back to work.
After work, Shen Yulin and I planned to have hot pot at home, so I asked Aunt Chen to buy some ingredients for us. Just as we were enjoying our meal, my phone suddenly received a message from Shen Yuyao: Xing Cui Tower, 16, hurry over. Puzzled by the content, I turned to tell Shen Yulin. He stiffened and stood up saying, "Xingxing, you continue eating with Aunt Chen; I'll go take a look." I quickly grabbed his arm: "I'm going with you!" Shen Yulin nodded; after changing shoes, we quickly left the house. Shen Yulin drove fast; within about 15 minutes we arrived at Xing Cui Tower.
The front desk receptionist saw the boss and his wife arriving and immediately came over: "Hello, Boss! Hello, Boss's wife!" "Who booked Room 16?" The receptionist paused for a moment and looked down at her computer records. "It was booked by Mr. Lei Hao from Wooden Building Materials." Upon hearing this, Shen Yulin took my hand and headed straight for the elevator.
In Room 16, Shen Yuyao was starting to feel unwell; she had only drunk two glasses of alcohol which shouldn't have affected her this badly given her tolerance. She realized she might have been drugged. Her heart raced as dizziness set in; her vision began to blur and her body gradually lost control. She gritted her teeth to stay awake and prayed that Xingxing would arrive soon.
Sitting next to her were Mr. Lei Hao from Wooden Building Materials and his manager. Lei Hao discreetly observed Shen Yuyao's reactions while drinking; noticing that the drug seemed to be taking effect, he shifted his chair closer and wrapped one arm around Shen Yuyao's slim waist, his fingers lightly caressing her delicate skin causing an immediate reaction in his lower body—he could hardly wait to take advantage of her. He signaled to his manager who quickly understood and leaned in close to whisper in Lei Hao's ear: "Here's the room card for Room 3005." Lei Hao quietly tucked the card into his waistband. "You all enjoy your drinks; I'm going to take Manager Shen to rest," he said as he stood up with the somewhat dazed Shen Yuyao and headed towards the door. The others in the room exchanged knowing glances but returned their focus to their own revelry without paying attention to Lei Hao and Shen Yuyao anymore.
