"The patient is not in serious condition; she will wake up when the sun rises," the doctor said. Upon hearing this news, both Shen Yulin and I sighed in relief. "Thank you, doctor," Shen Yulin replied. Soon after, Shen Yuyao was wheeled out of the emergency room and transferred to a hospital room.
"I'll go buy some food; you stay here and take care of her," Shen Yulin said before leaving the hospital. I walked into the room and saw Shen Yuyao still in a deep sleep, her face pale. I gently held her hand and silently prayed for her to wake up soon.
As the doctor had said, when dawn broke, Shen Yuyao slowly regained consciousness. Due to the medication, she was confused about what had happened, only remembering drinking alcohol and then feeling unwell, with no recollection of the events that followed. "I've already reported it to the police; Lei Hao is at the station now. Later, when you are discharged, you'll need to go to the police station as well. As for what happened, let the police explain it to you," I told Shen Yuyao. She looked bewildered but nodded in response. At that moment, Shen Yulin walked in with breakfast.
"How do you feel?" Shen Yulin asked with concern. "Much better, but I'm still a bit dizzy," Shen Yuyao replied, glancing at me. "Thank you for saving me." "No need to thank us; just don't be so reckless next time. Bring more people along for such gatherings," I advised.
Shen Yuyao smiled but didn't say anything further. After the doctor made his rounds, Shen Yuyao was informed that she could be discharged. After we finished breakfast, Shen Yulin first took me home. "You haven't rested all night; go take a good nap later. I've already requested leave for you at work," Shen Yulin said.
"Then come home early today," I replied with a smile. "Okay," Shen Yulin said as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and gave me a gentle peck on the forehead before turning to drive to his office.
When Shen Yuyao arrived at the police station, she learned what that foolish Lei Hao had done. The police asked her if she wanted to resolve it privately or follow normal procedures; she chose the latter. It was clear that this wasn't Lei Hao's first offense, and with police involvement, once everything was uncovered, he wouldn't have a good outcome. After leaving the police station, Shen Yuyao felt much lighter. She decided she needed to be more cautious in the future to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Back home, Shen Yuyao took a shower, changed her clothes, and then lay down on her bed, ready for a good sleep. However, no matter how much she tossed and turned, she couldn't fall asleep; images from last night kept replaying in her mind. She knew that if it hadn't been for me and Shen Yulin arriving in time, things could have turned out much worse for her.
Shen Yuyao took out her phone and sent me a text: "Xingxing, let's have dinner together tonight." I replied: "Sure, I'll let Brother Yulin know."
As night fell, we met at a Western restaurant. At the dinner table, we talked about many things in a pleasant atmosphere. Shen Yuyao looked at me gratefully, her eyes sparkling. "Xingxing, when are you marrying this guy?" I blushed at her sudden question about marriage. "Sister, there's no rush," Shen Yulin interjected smoothly.
Shen Yuyao pointed at Shen Yulin with mock annoyance: "You're not in a hurry; we're all anxious!" "Let's eat; all this delicious food won't silence your chatter," I laughed as I watched the sibling banter.
With Shen Yuyao's situation settled for now, I began focusing on Zhang Yun's wedding preparations. Thanks to Shen Yulin's help, Zhang Yun and Cheng Haifeng's wedding attire was custom-made by Kris. Kris worked efficiently; within less than half a month before Zhang Yun and Cheng Haifeng's wedding next month, everything was completed.
The four of us—myself, Shen Yulin, Zhang Yun, and Cheng Haifeng—sat around Kris's uniquely shaped tea table sipping Longjing tea while waiting for several seamstresses to bring in the wedding dresses into the fitting room. Once they arrived, we each began trying on our outfits. Shen Yulin and Cheng Haifeng were the first to put on their suits and walked over to the mirror. I must say that Kris's craftsmanship was indeed superb; both suits fit them perfectly and made them look incredibly handsome.
