Watching this scene, a wave of fear and despair surged within me. I realized that I was about to become one of them, stripped of my freedom and dignity, reduced to a mere commodity to be manipulated. A sense of powerlessness washed over me; I tried to struggle, but that overwhelming force kept me bound.
"Ah~" I woke up in fright, my body trembling uncontrollably, beads of sweat rolling down my forehead, with perspiration pouring from my forehead, back, arms, and other places, soaking my clothes and clinging tightly to my body. In the darkness, my eyes were wide open, yet I could see nothing, sending chills through me again and again.
"Xiao Fan, what's wrong?" My aunt's gentle and concerned voice felt like a spring breeze, softly brushing against my ears. Just then, the previously pitch-black room suddenly lit up with warm light, and my aunt's worried and anxious face came into view.
"Auntie~" I couldn't help but throw myself into her warm embrace, trembling like a frightened little bird, tears streaming down like a flood from my eyes.
"Did you have a nightmare? Or is there something wrong with your body?" My aunt asked softly while gently stroking my hair, her eyes filled with concern.
"Auntie, I'm scared... I miss Mom." My voice trembled slightly as I spoke, and my body involuntarily shivered. Upon hearing me mention missing Mom, my aunt quickly held me tighter and gently patted my back in an attempt to soothe my agitated emotions.
"Xiao Fan, you haven't eaten anything all day. I asked Uncle to make some porridge for us; how about we eat a little?"
Before my aunt finished speaking, there was a soft knock on the door. Shortly after, Uncle walked into the room holding a bowl. He immediately saw me curled up in my aunt's embrace and asked softly with concern in his eyes, "Xiao Fan, the porridge I made smells delicious. Would you like to try a bite? Just for Uncle?"
Hearing Uncle's words, I nodded slightly.
So, my aunt carefully took the steaming bowl of porridge and scooped up a small spoonful. After blowing on it gently to cool it down, she slowly brought it to my lips. Perhaps because I hadn't eaten properly for days, I was already ravenous at that moment and began to devour it without caring about manners. In no time at all, I finished the entire bowl of porridge and even let out a loud burp. Only then did I feel that I had regained some spirit and strength.
Seeing that I seemed better, my aunt cautiously asked, "Do you feel anything strange or uncomfortable anywhere?"
I shifted slightly and noticed some swelling pain below; although my wrists and ankles were still bandaged, I didn't feel much pain otherwise. "It feels a bit swollen down there; everything else is fine."
My aunt let out a long sigh of relief. "Rest for a little while; the doctor prescribed some medicine for you. You'll be fine after taking it for a few days."
However, what I said next left both my aunt and Uncle frozen in place as if they had been hit by a spell.
I suddenly asked, "Auntie, how long will this swelling pain take to heal?"
"Well... it should take several days at least," my aunt replied with a puzzled look on her face, clearly not understanding why I was asking this.
"What should I do then? I have to rush back to school next week for the graduation ceremony! If this swelling pain doesn't get better soon, I'm afraid I won't be able to stand all day! My body definitely can't handle it." I said anxiously.
"Graduation ceremony?" Uncle exclaimed in shock as his eyes widened.
"Yes! Wait a minute; is this your home, Auntie? When did I come to your house? I clearly remember just returning home!" As soon as I said half of this sentence, a sudden sharp pain struck my head as if a screwdriver was drilling painfully into my brain. "Ouch~ It hurts..." Unable to endure the pain any longer, I cried out loud.
