I changed into a dress and slowly walked out of the room. Shen Yulin's eyes lit up when he saw me. He stepped forward, gently wrapped his arms around my waist, and whispered in my ear, "Baby, you look so beautiful. If I could, I wouldn't want you to leave." My face instantly turned red, and my heart raced.
When we arrived at the hotel, Staff and Anna had already arrived. Upon seeing Shen Yulin and me, admiration shone in their eyes. Mr. Staff enthusiastically shook Shen Yulin's hand and said with a broad smile, "Shen, you two are truly a match made in heaven!" Shen Yulin's originally cool expression softened into a faint smile upon hearing Mr. Staff's praise.
Anna quietly followed Staff, but her gaze remained fixed on Shen Yulin. However, when her eyes shifted to me standing next to him, there was a hint of barely concealed disdain and contempt in her expression.
During dinner, Shen Yulin and Mr. Staff were engaged in lively conversation. They first discussed some work matters, then Mr. Staff excitedly shared amusing stories from his recent travels, making everyone laugh and filling the atmosphere at the table with joy.
I cautiously tugged at Shen Yulin's sleeve and leaned closer to his ear to whisper, "I need to go to the restroom." Upon hearing this, Shen Yulin immediately tightened his grip on my hand, indicating he wanted to accompany me. I couldn't help but find it amusing; I gently shook my head and reassured him, "It's okay, the restroom is right next door. I'll be back soon. You should stay here with Mr. Staff! Don't worry." At that moment, Anna suddenly interjected, "Shen, if you're worried, let me accompany your wife."
With that, Anna and I walked out of the private room together. I stood in front of the sink, turned on the faucet, and washed my hands while Anna stood beside me leisurely applying lipstick in front of the mirror.
Suddenly, Anna's gaze shifted to my stomach; she stared intently as if trying to see through my clothes for the truth inside. After a long pause, she incredulously asked, "Are you pregnant?"
I nodded slightly in acknowledgment. In truth, I didn't want to discuss this topic with her or spend too much time alone with her. So after washing my hands, I turned to leave the restroom. However, just as I reached the door, Anna stepped aside to block my way.
I stopped in my tracks and looked at her warily, unsure of her intentions. Suddenly, Anna's expression twisted into one of hostility as she glared at me and said angrily, "So it's because you're pregnant that Shen is staying by your side?"
Hearing this made me feel a surge of displeasure. I struggled to control my emotions and coldly replied, "What does my relationship with Shen Yulin have to do with you?"
Anna seemed oblivious to my irritation as she continued aggressively, "How can you bear his child? A common girl like you doesn't deserve his love! You're just a scheming woman trying to use a child to keep a man!"
I took a step back instinctively protecting my belly and frowned at her sudden change: "Miss Anna, I've known Brother Yulin for ten years; where we come from, feelings aren't about equality."
"So what? Back in New York, if it weren't for my brother's full support, would Shen have achieved such success and sustained the company's growth? If it weren't for you meddling in our lives, Shen and I would have been together long ago!" Anna grew more agitated as she spoke; her voice became sharper and more piercing as if it could break eardrums. She glared at me with wide eyes filled with hatred and resentment. With that said, she raised her right hand as if intending to slap me across the face.
