In the afternoon, Yan Jien was working at the company as usual.
It must be said that his hearing had become incredibly sharp; every movement in the office did not escape his ears. For instance, the two female illustrators were hiding in a corner, whispering that he had become more handsome. Meanwhile, Tong Liya was sitting at her desk, distractedly drawing while mumbling something under her breath. Although he couldn't hear clearly, Yan Jien vaguely caught that Tong Liya seemed to be calling him an idiot.
"Hehe." Yan Jien couldn't help but chuckle.
He hadn't expected such a significant change in himself; no wonder others were surprised. However, he didn't pay much attention to it. After all, he was still healthy now, and as long as his body adapted to this change over time, he should return to normal.
Shaking his head, Yan Jien refocused and prepared to dive into his work. Just then, Deng Kaiwen came running over.
"Yan Jien, you have to come to the gathering on Saturday," Deng Kaiwen said.
"I'll see how it goes," Yan Jien replied nonchalantly.
"Come on, I've already told my friends about it," Deng Kaiwen said with a frown.
"You told them and still ask me?" Yan Jien replied irritably.
"I'm just worried you won't want to go," Deng Kaiwen scratched his head.
"I..." Yan Jien was about to say something when he suddenly heard voices coming from the second floor.
"Old Yang, what's going on with that Yan Jien from your marketing department? Why are clients calling to complain?" a stern voice asked.
"I don't know," a sycophantic voice replied. "But I heard that this guy seems to have been sick recently and is in a very unstable mental state."
"Sick? What kind of sickness?" the stern voice inquired.
"Not sure; I heard it's quite serious," the sycophantic voice said.
"And you still let him come to work?" The stern voice sounded displeased.
"I had no choice; he didn't take leave, and I can't force him to go home and rest," the sycophantic voice sighed.
"Hmph, people like him should be fired immediately," the stern voice snorted coldly.
"Hehe, I think so too," a flattering voice chuckled.
"Do as you see fit; I just don't want to receive any more complaints from clients," a commanding voice replied.
"I understand, I understand," the flattering voice responded repeatedly.
Upon hearing this, Yan Jien furrowed his brows.
That flattering voice unmistakably belonged to Yang Xiongbo, the manager of the marketing department.
Yan Jien and Yang Xiongbo had never had a good relationship, as they were competitors.
Moreover, Yang Xiongbo had a tendency to take credit for others' work, often claiming their achievements as his own.
Yan Jien had lost several clients to him in the past.
Thus, Yan Jien held no fondness for Yang Xiongbo.
"This guy is really insidious," Yan Jien cursed inwardly.
"Yan Jien, what's wrong?" Deng Kaiwen asked with confusion.
"Nothing," Yan Jien shook his head.
"Oh," Deng Kaiwen nodded, "Remember, Saturday at seven in the evening; don't be late."
"We'll talk about it then," Yan Jien replied casually.
"You always have such a lukewarm attitude," Deng Kaiwen shrugged and turned to leave.
Yan Jien sat in his chair, listening as the conversation on the second floor came to an end; both Yang Xiongbo and the commanding voice had left.
"Client complaints?" Yan Jien frowned slightly.
He had indeed received a call from a client yesterday, but he had been in a bad mood and had given only perfunctory responses.
He hadn't expected that the other party would actually file a complaint with the company.
"Sigh, what a hassle," Yan Jien rubbed his temples.
It seemed he would need to find an opportunity to explain things to the client.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in," Yan Jien called out.
The door was pushed open, and the department manager, Hu Pei'er, walked in.
"Manager Wu, is there something you need?" Yan Jien asked, puzzled.
"Xiao Yan, the general manager wants to see you," Hu Pei'er said.
"The general manager?" Yan Jien was taken aback for a moment.
"Yes, it seems there has been a customer complaint," Hu Pei'er nodded.
"A customer complaint?" Yan Jien frowned.
"Yes, you know our company values customers above all," Hu Pei'er smiled, "But don't worry, I'll speak on your behalf."
"Thank you, Manager Wu," Yan Jien said with a wry smile.
"By the way, Xiao Yan, I've noticed you've become quite handsome lately!" Hu Pei'er suddenly remarked.
"Cough cough..." Yan Jien awkwardly cleared his throat.
"Have you used some kind of method?" Hu Pei'er winked.
"I..." Yan Jien opened his mouth but didn't know how to respond.
"Come on, share it with me so I can learn too," Hu Pei'er said with a smile.
"Well..." Yan Jien hesitated for a moment, "It's just an ordinary little secret recipe. If Manager Wu wants to learn, I can tell you later."
"Great! It's settled then," Hu Pei'er said happily.
"Okay," Yan Jien nodded.
"Well, you get back to work; I'm heading out," Hu Pei'er waved and turned to leave.
Yan Jien sat in his chair, pondering Hu Pei'er's earlier words.
"Become much more handsome?" Yan Jien touched his face.
His features had indeed become more defined, and his skin looked very good; he appeared quite spirited overall.
"Could it be due to genetic modification?" Yan Jien speculated in his mind.
After thinking for a while without coming to any conclusion, he decided not to dwell on it further.
The most important thing now was to address the customer complaint issue first.
Thinking of this, Yan Jien stood up and walked towards the general manager's office.
