Yan Jien stumbled upon a news article about a creature called the "Elephant Pig Beast" while browsing the internet. This was a self-media report, where the author claimed that a friend of theirs encountered a strange creature while mushroom picking in the mountains of Y Province. The woman managed to take a photo, but the flash angered the creature, which then attacked her.
The report included a photo showing a dark creature that resembled a wild boar. However, it had a long nose and two thick, curved tusks above its snout, making it look very peculiar.
Yan Jien became intrigued. In the past, he would have dismissed such reports as sensationalism from unscrupulous authors. But having experienced mutations himself, he found this report credible.
He glanced at the comments and noticed that most people regarded the article as fake news. "This is definitely hype; there’s no such thing as an Elephant Pig Beast!" "Exactly, that photo must be edited." "This author is truly shameless; they’ll write anything for clicks."
Shaking his head at these comments, Yan Jien acknowledged that while he wasn't sure about the authenticity of the report, mutated creatures did exist in the world. After all, he was one of them.
As he continued reading, he came across some interesting comments. "Don't jump to conclusions so quickly; what if it's true?" "Right! Even if it's hype, they should at least find this so-called Elephant Pig Beast; just posting one photo isn't enough!"
Nodding at these remarks, Yan Jien felt they made valid points. Even if the report was false, the existence of mutated creatures was real. He himself was the best example.
"I wonder how this Elephant Pig Beast mutated," Yan Jien thought to himself. He examined the photo closely and realized that this creature indeed looked very much like a wild boar. Aside from its long nose and large tusks, there wasn't much difference.
"Hmm?" Yan Jien suddenly froze. He noticed that the Elephant Pig Beast's nose and tusks were quite similar to his own wolf-like nose and Wolf Tooth Club after his mutation.
"What’s going on here?" Yan Jien furrowed his brow as a thought began to form in his mind.
Could it be that this elephant-pig beast also transformed into this form for some reason? Yan Jien continued reading, and the author provided his speculation.
"According to my friend's description, this elephant-pig beast has a very flexible nose, similar to that of an elephant."
"So, I suspect that this elephant-pig beast is a hybrid offspring of an elephant and a wild boar."
"However, its tusks are too large, resembling ivory, but they are not as long as an elephant's."
"Therefore, I speculate that during its growth process, it accidentally activated the homologous genes controlling the growth of an elephant's trunk, resulting in changes to its nasal characteristics."
Upon reading this, a glimmer of realization flashed in Yan Jien's eyes. He finally understood why he had transformed into a werewolf. It must have been because Clark's flesh had entered his body, causing him to accidentally activate the homologous genes controlling wolf nose growth. That was why he became a werewolf.
"But why do I only transform when I lose control, while I appear no different from ordinary people most of the time?" Yan Jien was filled with confusion. He thought for a moment and decided to patrol his territory to see if he could find an answer.
"I wonder just how large my territory actually is," Yan Jien mused to himself. He stood up, approached the window, and began to sense his marked points. Soon, surprise appeared on Yan Jien's face. He discovered that he could sense all the points he had marked.
"The range of this sensing... seems unrelated to some limit of hearing," Yan Jien murmured. He carefully sensed again and realized that the distance he could sense was different from the limit of hearing.
"It seems this should be another kind of ability," Yan Jien thought to himself. Then he tried to leave his territory.
"Hmm? The sensing is gradually fading?" Yan Jien was slightly taken aback. He found that after leaving his territory, he lost the ability to sense the marked points.
"It seems I can only sense the marked points when I stay within my territory," Yan Jien concluded in his mind. Next, he tried to search for marked points within his territory. However, he did not find any animals coming to mark their territory.
Time quickly passed until it was time for work. Yan Jien had no choice but to grab breakfast at the market before heading to the office. Along the way, Yan Jien furrowed his brow tightly. He realized that having overly sensitive senses was not necessarily a good thing. As soon as he activated his sense of smell, various odors overwhelmed him, nearly making him faint.
"It seems I need to try to minimize using my sense of smell in the future," Yan Jien thought to himself.
After finally arriving at the company, Yan Jien let out a sigh of relief. The office didn't have the complicated smells of a market, which made him feel a bit more comfortable.
"Master," Tong Liya approached and greeted Yan Jien. She was nearly an hour late, looking fatigued and expressionless.
"Mm." Yan Jien nodded and continued with his work.
Seeing Yan Jien's attitude, a hint of disappointment flashed in Tong Liya's eyes. She returned to her seat without glancing at him again. In truth, she really wanted to see Yan Jien, but she recalled Ma Yun's words about leaving Yan Jien alone for a while.
Tong Liya thought Ma Yun's advice made sense, so she held back from looking at Yan Jien. "Is he angry with me?" Tong Liya wondered to herself. Remembering Yan Jien's cold demeanor earlier made her feel uneasy.
"I can't give in first," Tong Liya bit her lip. She decided to follow Ma Yun's suggestion and leave Yan Jien alone, believing that he would eventually come to her when he couldn't stand it anymore. However, the thought of Yan Jien possibly ignoring her made Tong Liya feel reluctant.
For a moment, she felt conflicted inside. Finally, unable to resist any longer, she took out her phone and sent a message to Yan Jien. "Master, I'm sorry."
When Yan Jien saw the message, he felt a surge of surprise. He hadn't expected Tong Liya to take the initiative to apologize.
"Hmph, this little girl finally knows how to back down," Yan Jien felt a sense of pride inside. However, he still maintained a facade of indifference on the surface.
"It's okay, I don't mind," Yan Jien replied with a message.
