Shen Xi's failure intensified the tension in the household. Once, she was the beloved little princess of the family. But now, she had become the target of everyone's criticism. Her reputation was completely ruined, her fans had abandoned her, and even her former close friends no longer associated with her. Her parents began to blame each other, accusing one another of being incapable and failing to provide Shen Xi with better resources.
Meanwhile, Shen Mingxu continued to live a life of luxury at home, completely oblivious to the looming crisis. Shen Xi started to become sharp-tongued and often quarreled with her family over trivial matters. Noticing their parents' changing attitude towards Shen Xi, Shen Mingxu seized the opportunity to demand more resources to improve his own quality of life.
“Mom and Dad, I want to buy a car,” Shen Mingxu said seriously while sitting on the sofa. “I’m already an adult this year and will be taking my college entrance exams soon. Having a car would not only make it easier for me to get to school but also provide me with transportation.”
Upon hearing Shen Mingxu's request, their parents' expressions darkened. The family's financial situation simply did not allow for any additional expenses at this time.
“Xiao Xu, why don’t you… wait a bit longer?” their mother said hesitantly. “Right now, our family…”
“Wait for what?” Shen Mingxu replied irritably. “I’m already an adult! If I wait any longer, I’ll be old!”
“How can you talk to your mother like that?” Their father’s anger flared at Shen Mingxu's attitude. “We’ve raised you for so many years, and you don’t show any understanding!”
“Understand you? Who understands me?” Shen Mingxu retorted defiantly, raising his voice. “Which of my classmates doesn’t have their own car by eighteen? I’m the only one still taking the bus!”
“You…” Their father trembled with rage. “You’re simply ungrateful!”
“Enough! Stop arguing!” Their mother cried helplessly from the sofa. “Mingxu, it’s not that Mom doesn’t want to buy it for you; it’s just that…”
“I’m incapable! I’m incapable of giving my child a good life!” Their father shouted angrily. “If it weren’t for you wanting to save face and insisting on sending our child abroad for school, our family wouldn’t have fallen into this situation!”
“Are you blaming me now?” Their mother’s eyes were filled with tears as she countered. “Do you think I wanted this? Everything I do is for the sake of our child!”
“You…” The father pointed at the mother, his finger trembling but unable to articulate a single word.
In the end, he abruptly turned around and slammed the door behind him.
“Bang—”
The loud noise echoed as the door was forcefully shut.
I sat in the corner, silently observing everything. There was no sympathy, no pity, only calmness and indifference. I knew that all of this was arranged by me. My purpose was to completely shatter this family. It seemed that my plan was slowly taking effect. The arguments between my parents became more frequent, and the conflicts between Shen Mingxu and Shen Xi grew sharper.
During one family meeting, the two of them completely fell apart, attacking each other's flaws and mistakes. "If it weren't for you, how would our family have ended up like this!" Shen Mingxu pointed at Shen Xi and shouted, "You're just a useless waste!"
"Who are you calling a waste?" Shen Xi immediately fired back, glaring at Shen Mingxu. "At least I've tried, unlike you, who only knows how to eat, drink, and play all day!"
"What did you say?" Shen Mingxu gritted his teeth in anger. "Say that again!"
"I said you're a waste; you're nothing but a waste!" Shen Xi stood her ground and retorted loudly.
"You..." Shen Mingxu lunged at Shen Xi, but thankfully their mother intervened just in time.
"What are you two doing?" their mother looked at them with a helpless expression. "We're all family; can't we talk things over properly?"
"Mom, let go of me! I have to teach her a lesson today!" Shen Mingxu struggled fiercely, speaking with malice.
"Enough! Stop arguing!" their father slammed the table and shouted loudly.
Under his intimidation, Shen Mingxu and Shen Xi finally quieted down, glaring at each other with expressions full of defiance.
