I was startled and immediately bowed respectfully, "Understood, please take care."
When the palace guards brought me back, Li Jue was standing at the door.
Seeing me return, he had an anxious expression on his face, "Princess, are you alright?"
Looking at his hypocritical face, I felt a surge of anger inside.
I had always thought that Shen Zishu's death was orchestrated by Shen Zizhao, with Li Jue being nothing more than an accomplice.
But that assassin...
Li Jue was the one who personally killed Shen Zishu; what connection could he have with the assassin?
A friend? An enemy?
I realized I didn't understand him at all, while he seemed to know far more about me than I did about him.
Thinking about how I had almost lost my life to the sword just moments ago, my legs trembled slightly, "Who... who am I?"
Li Jue was taken aback, "Your Highness, what's wrong?"
I bit my lip, on the verge of tears, "I... I don't remember. Am I Zishu?"
Li Jue's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at me, "You... you say you are who?"
I blinked, "Zishu?"
Li Jue looked as if struck by lightning; he suddenly stepped forward and hugged me tightly in his arms.
I stood there dazed as he held me so tightly that I could barely breathe.
Li Jue was trembling all over, his tone urgent, "You say you are Zishu?"
I cautiously nodded.
Li Jue released me abruptly and grabbed my shoulders, examining me closely as if looking at a long-lost treasure.
I felt uneasy under his gaze and couldn't help but ask, "Am I... Zishu?"
Li Jue paused for a moment before starting to tear at my clothing.
I was startled, "What are you doing?"
Li Jue said nothing and continued to pull at my clothes until he saw the bandage on my shoulder and finally stopped.
He gently unwrapped the bandage, revealing a bleeding wound underneath, and his expression changed slightly.
I stared at him blankly; his eyes held regret, guilt, joy, and disbelief, but there was no deep affection as Shen Zishu had thought.
I lowered my head, feeling a slight bitterness in my heart.
Shen Zishu, oh Shen Zishu, what makes you think that Li Jue has feelings for you?
Li Jue rewrapped my wound, keeping his head down so I couldn't see his expression.
After a while, he looked up at me with bright eyes and said, “Zishu, you’re back.”
I pressed my lips together and lowered my head, “I am not Zishu.”
Li Jue's expression tightened, “What did you say?”
Tears welled up in my eyes, “I am Xiaoxiao, not Zishu.”
Li Jue looked confused, “What’s the difference between Xiaoxiao and Zishu?”
I raised my head to look at him, “Do you really not know, or are you pretending not to know?”
Li Jue looked at me in confusion.
I sniffed, “Zishu is Zishu, Xiaoxiao is Xiaoxiao. Zishu is the princess; Xiaoxiao is not. Zishu is the woman in Li Jue’s heart; Xiaoxiao is just the woman Li Jue uses to pass the time.”
Li Jue's expression tightened, “You…”
I pulled away from him and took a step back, “You don’t really like Xiaoxiao. What you like is just a woman who looks like Zishu.”
Li Jue's expression changed drastically, “You… how do you…”
I glared at him, “I know everything; I know it all.”
Li Jue paused for a moment, “You…”
I looked at him steadily, “Li Jue, I’m tired. I don’t want to play with you anymore. Please let me go.”
His face turned pale instantly as he stepped forward, “You…”
I stepped back, “I know you like Zishu. I’m occupying her body; eventually, I have to return it. I don’t blame you; I only blame myself for why it had to be Xiaoxiao.”
After saying that, I turned to walk out but was suddenly pulled back by Li Jue.
I struggled once but couldn’t break free and had to let him pull me along.
Li Jue spoke sincerely, "I'm sorry, I... I didn't think..." He paused, "This matter, I kept it from you, it's my fault."
I glanced at him sideways, "Isn't it just that you like Zishu? What's the big deal? I won't laugh at you."
Li Jue's expression relaxed, "You're not angry anymore?"
I scoffed, "What right do I have to be angry? I'm just an insignificant person; how could I be angry at the Grand Tutor?"
Li Jue sighed, "That's not what I meant."
I shook off his hand, "Who Lord Shen likes or doesn't like has nothing to do with Xiaoxiao. Xiaoxiao has things to do, so I won't accompany Lord Shen anymore."
After saying that, I turned to leave but was grabbed by Li Jue.
Li Jue looked at me with a complicated expression, "You're not Xiaoxiao."
I raised an eyebrow at him, "If I'm not Xiaoxiao, then who am I?"
Li Jue pressed his lips together, "You're not her."
I smiled, "Lord Shen really knows how to talk. If I'm not Xiaoxiao, does that mean you are?"
Li Jue's expression grew serious, "Yes, you're not her."
I laughed, "I'm not; does that mean she is?"
Li Jue remained silent and just looked at me.
