I decided not to passively endure any longer.
For these years, Li Zhansen had always been high and mighty, while I could only watch helplessly as he stepped on me. He controlled everything and held every key decision in his hands. Whenever I tried to fight back, he could easily turn the situation around, making me taste the bitterness of failure. But this time, I would not let him succeed. I was ready with a plan, a plan that would make him lose crucial support.
I arranged to meet Lin Yichen. Lin Yichen was a fierce rival of Li Zhansen in the business world, but he had never found the right opportunity to bring Li Zhansen down. My plan was exactly the opportunity he had been waiting for.
In the café, Lin Yichen's eyes sparkled with anticipation. "Go ahead, what's the plan?"
I smiled slightly. "As far as I know, Li Zhansen is currently dating Xu Jianing. This relationship is crucial for him because Xu Jianing's father, Xu Shengren, controls a vast business network. Li Zhansen must leverage this relationship to expand his business territory."
Lin Yichen raised an eyebrow, interest gleaming in his eyes. "Continue."
"But this relationship is not based on love at all." I leaned closer to Lin Yichen and whispered, "Li Zhansen merely sees Xu Jianing as a pawn. As soon as Xu Jianing realizes this and discovers that Li Zhansen does not truly love her, their relationship will collapse immediately."
After hearing this, Lin Yichen's eyes lit up, and a cold smile appeared on his lips. "Exactly. If we can make Xu Jianing see through Li Zhansen's true nature, his cooperation plans will fall apart."
I nodded and said softly, "We just need a little push."
Lin Yichen took a sip of coffee and slowly nodded. "So how do you plan to do it?"
"Very simply." I took a sip of tea, my smile deepening. "At a critical moment, I will personally expose Li Zhansen's disguise."
A few days later, the opportunity finally arrived. Li Zhansen was invited to an important business dinner where many big shots would be present. This was a significant chance for him to expand his business territory, and I knew he would definitely bring Xu Jianing along to showcase their 'unbreakable bond.'
I dressed meticulously, choosing an elegant gown for the dinner. The grand banquet hall was dazzling with lights and colors, filled with business elites. The moment I stepped into the venue, my gaze quickly locked onto Li Zhansen and Xu Jianing. Xu Jianing wore a white gown, graceful and poised, clearly the perfect companion by Li Zhansen's side. Their relationship appeared intimate and close-knit, but I knew it was merely a show.
I took a deep breath and smiled as I walked towards Xu Jianing, taking the initiative to greet her, "Miss Xu, what a coincidence."
Xu Jianing turned around, slightly taken aback; clearly, she did not recognize me, but still maintained a polite smile, "Hello, may I ask who you are?"
"I am an old friend of Mr. Li," I said with a friendly smile, extending my hand. " Ji Ran, nice to meet you."
Xu Jianing nodded slightly and shook my hand. I then guided the conversation, "Miss Xu and Mr. Li really are a perfect match. Everyone says you two are a couple made in heaven."
Upon hearing this, a hint of shyness appeared on her face as she replied, "Thank you, you really know how to flatter."
I smiled gently and spoke at a leisurely pace, "However, I always feel that Mr. Li's feelings for Miss Xu might not be as deep as one might imagine."
Xu Jianing's smile stiffened slightly, and a trace of confusion flashed in her eyes. "Oh? Why do you say that?"
"Maybe I'm just overthinking it," I pretended to be nonchalant, lifting my glass and giving it a gentle shake. I continued casually, "It's just that sometimes men may not be as invested in their emotions."
I deliberately left enough space for her to ponder. Sure enough, Xu Jianing's expression became subtle. She furrowed her brow, clearly starting to contemplate my words.
"However, I heard that Mr. Li has been busy expanding his business lately. It seems that his relationship with Miss Xu is not entirely based on love," I added slowly.
This statement was like an invisible knife, precisely piercing Xu Jianing's heart. Her expression changed abruptly, becoming complex.
"What did you say?" Her voice trembled slightly, as if she couldn't believe her ears.
I maintained a calm smile, "It's just something I've heard; Miss Xu shouldn't take it too seriously."
After speaking, I politely raised my glass in a toast, smiled slightly, and then turned to leave. Behind me, Xu Jianing stood frozen in place, her expression had completely changed.
I knew that the seed of doubt had been planted. All that was left was to wait for it to sprout.
I quietly observed Xu Jianing's movements. Sure enough, not long after, I saw her walk up to Li Zhansen, her face darkened, and her voice laced with clear accusation: "Li Zhansen, did you ever love me?"
Li Zhansen furrowed his brows, clearly not expecting to be confronted in such a setting. His expression shifted from initial confusion to growing impatience, his gaze remained cold and devoid of tenderness. "Xu Jianing, this is a business dinner, not the place for your tantrums."
His cold response made Xu Jianing's face turn pale instantly. Her emotions began to spiral out of control as she raised her voice: "You never loved me, did you? You only wanted to collaborate with my dad!"
The atmosphere in the room suddenly became tense, and many guests turned to look at them. I stood not far away, quietly watching everything unfold, unable to suppress a smile at the corner of my mouth.
Li Zhansen clearly underestimated Xu Jianing's reaction. Instead of trying to soothe her in the face of her accusations, he frowned and said softly, "Calm down, Xu Jianing."
But it was too late. Xu Jianing's emotions completely collapsed as her sharp voice echoed throughout the venue: "Li Zhansen, I must have been blind to believe you!"
I knew my plan had succeeded.
In front of everyone, Li Zhansen's image began to crumble, and his partnership with Xu Shengren would gradually disintegrate amidst this public quarrel. I turned and left the venue, filled with pride and satisfaction.
Li Zhansen, your time has come.
