Li Zhansen's reaction was calmer than I expected. Perhaps he had anticipated my actions all along. So, when I countered him, he was not surprised.
Li Zhansen quickly found out about the events at the banquet, and that night, he came to see me. "Su Jiyue, you truly did not disappoint me," he said as he sat on the sofa, his tone relaxed and self-assured, as if he had everything under control.
I looked at him with a challenging gaze. "What? Mr. Li, are you already losing your composure so soon?"
Upon hearing this, Li Zhansen glanced at me with a meaningful look. "Su Jiyue, you shouldn't go against me."
I scoffed, "Why can't I?"
"Because I genuinely like you."
I was taken aback; I didn't expect him to say something like that. But soon, I regained my composure. "Mr. Li, that kind of joke isn't funny at all."
"I'm not joking," Li Zhansen said, looking at me with sincere eyes.
I sneered, unconvinced. "Do you think I would believe you?"
"Mr. Li, you should know that I've been investigating you all along, right?"
Li Zhansen nodded slightly, indicating that he was aware. I raised an eyebrow and said mockingly, "Then you should also know what kind of person you are in my eyes."
Li Zhansen shrugged casually. "So what?"
"I don't mind your investigation; in fact, I find it quite interesting."
I paused for a moment, somewhat confused by his meaning. Li Zhansen looked at me with deep eyes.
"Su Jiyue, do you know? The first time I saw you, I was attracted to you."
"Every move you make, every word you say, makes me feel that you are different from those other women."
I frowned, not understanding what he meant.
Li Zhansen smiled softly and said, "You are different from those women; you are not with me for money, nor are you in a relationship with me for gain. You are the only one who makes me feel challenged."
"So?" I looked at him, my tone calm.
"So, I am willing to give up other women for you."
I was taken aback, unable to believe my ears.
Li Zhansen looked at me with sincere eyes: "Su Jiyue, I know you doubt me, but I want to tell you that everything I say to you is from the heart."
I stared at him in silence.
I didn't know whether to believe him.
After all, what he had done to me before made it hard for me to trust him easily.
Li Zhansen seemed to see through my thoughts; he sighed and spoke gently.
"Su Jiyue, don't think too badly of me; I haven't really done anything to you."
"And besides, you tried to seduce me before, didn't you?"
My expression stiffened, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
I did try to seduce Li Zhansen, but ultimately failed.
Li Zhansen looked at me calmly: "Su Jiyue, do you know why you failed?"
"Why?" I blurted out.
Li Zhansen smiled slightly: "Because you didn't invest your true feelings."
"If you're willing to open your heart to me, I believe things will be different between us."
I fell silent, at a loss for words.
Li Zhansen looked at me earnestly.
"Su Jiyue, stop collaborating with Lin Yichen; he is not a good person."
"Then what about you? Are you a good person?" I retorted.
Li Zhansen shook his head. "I'm not a good person, but I won't do anything bad to you."
"Then why did you come looking for me?" I looked at him, my gaze sharp. "Why did you come to find me instead of Xu Jianing or Su Liuyin?"
Li Zhansen smiled lightly, his tone indifferent. "Xu Jianing is just a business marriage partner to me, and Su Liuyin..."
He paused, his tone meaningful. "She is a woman with deep schemes, not suitable for me."
"Do you think I'm suitable for you?"
"Yes." Li Zhansen looked at me, his gaze sincere. "Only you are suitable for me."
