Before long, Chunyu tightly gripped a rope and hurried over to Yun Jiu. Her hands trembled slightly, as if the rope she held was a heavy burden weighing down on her. Worry filled her eyes, as if she could foresee something bad about to happen.
Chunyu had made up her mind; if her young lady truly intended to hang herself with that rope, she would do everything in her power to stop her.
Yun Jiu took the rope from Chunyu, and a fleeting, barely noticeable change flickered in her gaze. She then picked up a slender branch from the yard and securely tied it to her back with the rope. This action only deepened Chunyu's confusion. What was her young lady planning to do?
"Miss, you... what are you doing?" Chunyu finally couldn't hold back and asked, her voice tinged with a hint of tears. She was genuinely afraid that her young lady had been affected by something and lost her sanity.
Yun Jiu glanced at Chunyu, her eyes filled with reassurance. "Don't worry, I'm just going to see Grandfather. You take care of the house; I'll be back soon."
With that, Yun Jiu bounced away toward Yun Baichen's study, the branch on her back seeming as light as a feather rather than a heavy stick.
The servants of the Yun Residence stopped their tasks, staring in shock at Yun Jiu. They had never seen such a sight before. Hadn't Miss Jiu always worn black? Why was she dressed in white disciple robes today? And what was with the branch tied to her back?
"Oh my, what's wrong with Miss Jiu today? Has she lost her mind?"
"Today is Young Master Changqing's memorial day; could it be that Miss Jiu has been affected by it?"
"Hmph, I think she's forgotten what day it is. All she does is chase after Bai Moyu all day."
"..."
Yun Jiu had excellent hearing. Although the servants were speaking in hushed tones, she could hear them clearly. She stumbled slightly, nearly falling to the ground. Damn it, how did she end up in such a bizarre situation?!
However, piecing together the servants' discussions and Yun Xiaowu's previous behavior, Yun Jiu quickly grasped her current predicament. It seemed that Yun Baichen had suppressed the news of the stolen Spirit Gathering Pill and had not made it public. Yun Jiu felt a bit of fondness for this grandfather she had yet to meet; if he could treat someone like the original owner of her body—who was nothing but an ungrateful wretch—with kindness, it showed that Yun Baichen was a person of deep loyalty and affection.
As Yun Jiu pondered this, she was suddenly blocked in her path. Looking up, she saw it was Yun Chen from the Second Branch. This Yun Chen had often bullied the original owner and was quite a troublesome character.
"Oh my, what a rarity! Yun Jiu, you didn't go out to fool around with Bai Moyu today?" Yun Chen said sarcastically. "Tsk tsk, why aren't you wearing your crow outfit? What's with that branch on your back? Could it be that Bai Moyu likes this style? Hahaha!"
Yun Jiu shot him a cold glance, rolling her eyes internally. This Yun Chen was more dramatic than a television show! She replied flatly, "Second Brother, Grandfather is anxious to see me about something. Please step aside."
Yun Chen was taken aback; he hadn't expected Yun Jiu to speak so calmly to him. The previous Yun Jiu would always look pitiful and gloomy at the sight of him, as if he were some kind of monster. What was going on today?
"Letting you pass isn't impossible," Yun Chen said with a sly grin. "But I'm a bit short on cash lately. Give me one hundred taels of silver, and I'll let you through."
At this, Yun Jiu's temper flared! She had two great loves in life: food and money. How dare this Yun Chen ask her for money?!
"One hundred taels? Why don't you go rob someone?!" Yun Jiu exclaimed, her eyes wide as she glared at him. "Get lost!"
Yun Chen was startled by her reaction; he hadn't expected such a strong response from her. In the past, getting silver from Yun Jiu had been easy for him. What was different today? Was it because of Bai Moyu that she had become so agitated? Nevertheless, he wasn't going to let Yun Jiu off easily. After all, one hundred taels was no small amount for him.
Yun Chen couldn't help but feel humiliated and angry: "Yun Jiu, don't push your luck! You ungrateful wretch! If you don't hand over the silver, I'll make you regret it!"
"Want me to look good? I already look great! What more do you want from me?" Yun Jiu crossed her arms and slightly raised her chin, revealing her slender neck.
The sunlight hit her dark little face but failed to penetrate the depth in her eyes, making her appear even more mysterious. A hint of disdain curled at the corners of her mouth, as if she was completely unfazed by Yun Chen's threat.
Yun Chen was infuriated by her demeanor. He clenched his fists, the muscles in his face twitching with anger. "Yun Jiu, how dare you talk back! If you have the guts, never step out of the Head of the Family Manor. Otherwise, once you're outside, just wait and see how I deal with you!"
Upon hearing this, Yun Jiu let out a light scoff, her eyes filled with contempt and mockery. "Hmph! If you have the guts, why don't you make a move right now? Just talking without action is nothing impressive. Look at you, so foolish, trying to teach me a lesson? No wonder your nickname is 'Yun Er,' you're truly an idiot! Just a complete fool!"
Her words were sharp and precise, piercing straight into Yun Chen's heart. He was taken aback; he never expected that this usually timid Yun Jiu would dare to speak to him like this today.
The servants around them whispered among themselves, their eyes wide with astonishment as they looked at Yun Jiu.
Yun Chen snapped back to reality and glared fiercely at Yun Jiu, his face twisted with rage. "You! Fine! Yun Jiu, since you don't know how to respect your elder brother, I'll teach you some manners!"
With that, he suddenly raised his hand and swung it toward Yun Jiu's face.
Yun Jiu's eyes sharpened; she swiftly dodged to the side, nimbly avoiding Yun Chen's slap.
"Yun Chen, are your eyes bad? I'm right here; how could you possibly miss?" Yun Jiu landed gracefully on the ground, dusting off her hands with a mocking smile.
Yun Chen was furious and shouted loudly as he charged at Yun Jiu with his fists swinging. But she darted around like a little rabbit, skillfully evading him in the courtyard. After struggling for quite some time, he couldn't even touch the hem of her clothes.
The servants watched in wide-eyed disbelief as they witnessed this incredible scene.
Yun Jiu felt a surge of joy; she knew that although her body was weak, it was highly agile. Seizing an opening in Yun Chen's attack, she launched a kick straight at his stomach.
"Ah!" Yun Chen was sent sprawling onto the ground, clutching his belly and crying out in pain.
Yun Jiu frowned slightly; she felt that her body was still too weak. In the past, she could have kicked Yun Chen several yards away with ease.
Yun Chen struggled to get up, glaring at Yun Jiu with fury in his eyes. "You little wretch, how dare you kick me? Just wait and see how I deal with you!"
As soon as he managed to rise, Yun Jiu leaped forward and kicked him repeatedly. Her movements were as swift as lightning, each kick landing squarely on Yun Chen. He staggered backward with each blow until he finally collapsed back onto the ground.
"Little rubber ball, kick the legs, Malan flowers bloom twenty-one, twenty-eight twenty-five six, twenty-eight twenty-five seven..." Yun Jiu muttered as she continued her assault, as if she were playing a game.
The onlookers, the servants around them, rubbed their eyes and pinched their thighs in disbelief. How had Miss Jiu become so formidable?
After tiring herself out, Yun Jiu coldly unfastened Yun Chen's money pouch. She opened it to take a look and grimaced. "You're really poor! Yun Chen, I give you one month to return a thousand taels of silver to me; otherwise, every time I see you from now on, I'll make sure to hit you!"
By this time, Yun Chen had regained some composure. Hearing Yun Jiu's words, he roared in anger, "Yun Jiu, you little vixen, I won't let you off!"
"Oh? It seems I've been too merciful. If that's the case, don't blame me for being ruthless!" Yun Jiu replied with a sinister smile, a glint of coldness flashing in her eyes. She approached Yun Chen and lightly tapped on him a few times.
"Ah!" Yun Chen suddenly screamed in agony, his face contorted in pain. It felt as though his body was being torn apart by something unbearable. Rolling on the ground and begging for mercy, he cried out, "Sister Jiu, please spare me! I promise I won't do it again!"
