The first time I received my medical report, I didn't pay much attention to it. It was just a routine check-up, nothing serious. I thought to myself as I casually flipped through the report. Until my eyes landed on the diagnosis—Liver Cancer Stage II. 0

In that moment, my head was ringing, as if the entire world had been put on pause. Dazed and confused, I couldn't believe my eyes. Liver Cancer? How could this be possible? I had always been healthy; how could I have this disease? The panic and fear surging within me nearly overwhelmed me, my thoughts tangled and chaotic. Holding that thin report, I left the hospital in a daze. 0

When I got home, I still felt disoriented. As soon as I walked in, I saw my mother-in-law Aunt Lin sitting on the sofa, seemingly waiting for me. Upon seeing me enter, her gaze quickly shifted from my face to the report in my hand. Her reaction was astonishingly quick; she almost immediately jumped up from the sofa and snatched the report from my hands. Her eyes scanned the paper rapidly until they stopped at the diagnosis, her expression instantly turning to one of panic. 0

“Sensen, come here!” Her voice was sharp and piercing, filled with a kind of tension and excitement I had never seen before. “Bai Xi has cancer!” 0

“Cancer…” I repeated softly, my mind feeling like it had been struck by a heavy blow, blank and empty. Before I could recover from the shock, Lo Sen rushed out from the kitchen. He grabbed my shoulder with concern and worry in his eyes, as if my pain was his own. 0

“Bai Xi, are you okay?” His voice was gentle, filled with warmth. In that moment, I almost wanted to believe he genuinely cared about me. However, everything that followed felt like a heavy punch that ruthlessly shattered all my illusions. 0

I nodded stiffly, pretending to be fine while an odd sense of unease began to grow within me. Seeing my expression blank, Aunt Lin seemed to relax a bit; she walked over to Lo Sen and patted his arm as if to comfort him. 0

“Sensen, don’t be afraid,” her voice softened slightly, but her tone was chilling enough to send shivers down my spine. “Once Bai Xi is gone, we can collect the insurance money and start a new life.” 0

I stood frozen at the kitchen door, feeling as if a knife had brutally sliced through my heart. Insurance money? They were actually waiting for my death just for that money? 0

“Mom, keep your voice down; don’t let her hear you.” Lo Sen's voice came through with a hint of anxious worry. 0

“Don’t worry; she’ll be dead soon enough.” Aunt Lin even laughed triumphantly; that laughter echoed in my ears, cold and piercing. 0

I stood there in shock, feeling as if I had fallen into an endless winter. I had never imagined that my husband and mother-in-law—who had lived with me for so many years—were secretly plotting my death behind my back. And in their eyes, I was no longer a living person but merely an impending fortune waiting to be claimed. 0

After Lo Sen and Aunt Lin turned to leave, I finally came to my senses. The surging anger and despair within me nearly drowned me. I covered my mouth, desperately suppressing any sound. Tears blurred my vision, and I couldn't understand why my husband, who once cherished me like a treasure, could be so cold and heartless. I had thought that even if this marriage lacked passion, there would at least be some affection; however, now I realized it was all just a joke. 0

Struggling against the pain in my heart, I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. I couldn't panic; I absolutely could not show weakness in this game. Sitting alone in the living room, Aunt Lin's indifferent voice still echoed in my ears. Countless thoughts swirled in my mind, anger and helplessness intertwined. I wanted to rush out and confront them, asking why they were treating me this way, but ultimately, I knew that would only play into their hands. 0

Just as I was trying to calm my emotions, Aunt Lin suddenly appeared before me, her expression instantly turning filled with concern, as if the woman who had just plotted my death did not exist. " Bai Xi, let's not treat this illness anymore," her voice was filled with hypocritical gentleness. "You wouldn’t want Sensen to suffer because of you, right? The medical expenses are too high; why burden everyone?" 0

I looked up at her, the feigned warmth on her face almost made me want to vomit. How could she still pretend to care about me? She clearly wished for my demise so she could squeeze out the last bit of money from me. I stared into her eyes as if trying to see through her soul, filled with anger and disdain. But I did not show it; I knew that at this moment, I could not reveal any cracks. 0

So, I took a deep breath, suppressing the anger inside me, and forced a compliant smile as I softly said, "Mom, I understand. I won’t seek treatment." 0

Aunt Lin's face immediately revealed a hint of smug satisfaction as she patted my shoulder as if I were already a dying person. "Good child, that's what a sensible daughter-in-law should say." 0

I smiled stiffly and nodded. The anger and humiliation inside me made me want to stand up immediately and tear off her hypocritical mask, but I held back. I knew this was not the time. 0

I stood up and walked back to my room, closing the door behind me and leaning against the wall as I took a deep breath. I knew this game had just begun. And I would make them pay; none of those who had harmed me would escape. 0

Did they think I would obediently wait for death? No, I would make them realize that the true master of this game was never them. 0

My counterattack had only just begun. 0
