As soon as Dong Yifan's words fell, Chen Xiao raised her head in disbelief, meeting Dong Yifan's evasive gaze. Tears instantly blurred her vision, but she held back from letting them fall. The man before her was the one she loved deeply and had married without hesitation, yet at this moment, he felt like a sharp knife piercing her heart.
"Yifan, what are you saying?" Chen Xiao's voice trembled. She wished he could give her a reasonable explanation, even if it were a lie.
Dong Yifan hurriedly averted his gaze, unable to meet Chen Xiao's eyes, mumbling vaguely, "I... I was just joking with the neighbor..."
Chen Xiao could no longer control her emotions; fury surged within her. She had never imagined that the husband she loved would orchestrate such deceit behind her back. Taking a deep breath and holding back her tears, she turned to leave while cradling their child, her resolute figure seeming to declare something profound.
"Xiao Xiao, let me explain..." Dong Yifan rushed after her, trying to grasp Chen Xiao's hand, but she shook him off decisively.
"Don't call me that!" Chen Xiao walked forward without looking back. The tears finally flowed freely, and the feeling of despair enveloped her tightly. The immense material disparity and emotional blow left her feeling lost about the future.
The streets of Shanghai were still bustling with traffic and people hurrying along, oblivious to her sadness and despair at that moment.
At that moment, a black Mercedes slowly came to a stop beside her. The window rolled down to reveal a familiar face—Wang Qiang, Chen Xiao's new boss.
"Chen Xiao, what's wrong?" Wang Qiang looked at Chen Xiao standing by the roadside in tears, surprise and concern flashing in his eyes.

"Mr. Wang..." Chen Xiao wiped her tears with the back of her hand, sniffed, and tried to force a smile that ended up looking worse than crying.
"What happened?" Wang Qiang frowned slightly, concern evident in his gaze. "Why are you standing by the roadside alone with the child? Where is Dong Yifan?"
Chen Xiao bit her lip, hesitating to speak. Seeing her reddened eyes and haggard expression, Wang Qiang had already guessed part of the story.
"Let's get in the car first; we can talk slowly," Wang Qiang said as he opened the car door and gestured for Chen Xiao to enter.
Chen Xiao hesitated for a moment, glancing down at the sleeping child in her arms before finally nodding. Once inside the car, the warmth of the interior and the faint scent of perfume helped her relax slightly.
"Thank you, Mr. Wang..." Chen Xiao said softly, her voice choked with emotion.
"We're colleagues, no need to be so polite," Wang Qiang said with a gentle smile as he started the car. "Where to? I'll give you a ride."
Chen Xiao remained silent for a moment, her mind racing, unsure of where to go.
"I... I don't know where to go either..." Chen Xiao's voice was low, tinged with confusion and helplessness.
"If you don't mind, could you tell me what happened?" Wang Qiang glanced at Chen Xiao through the rearview mirror. "Maybe I can help you."
Chen Xiao looked up, meeting Wang Qiang's sincere gaze, and felt an urge to confide in him. Taking a deep breath, she poured out her experiences and grievances from her marriage until now, along with the disappointment and anger she felt after hearing Dong Yifan's words earlier. As she spoke passionately, tears streamed down her face, and her voice became choked with emotion.
Wang Qiang listened quietly, occasionally offering a tissue, his eyes filled with understanding and sympathy.
"I was so foolish!" Chen Xiao wiped her tears and forced a self-deprecating smile. "I was reckless in wanting to marry him, thinking love could conquer all. Now I realize that reality is much harsher than I imagined..."
"You did nothing wrong; you were just too naive," Wang Qiang gently comforted her. "Both love and stability are important; you just need to find a balance."
"But I don’t know what to do now..." Chen Xiao covered her face with her hands, her tone heavy with confusion and helplessness. "I'm so disappointed in him and lost about the future..."
"You're still young; everything can start anew," Wang Qiang encouraged, looking at Chen Xiao. "I believe with your abilities and talent, you can create something wonderful for yourself."
"Really?" Chen Xiao lifted her head, a glimmer of hope shining in her eyes.
"Absolutely," Wang Qiang nodded affirmatively. "I've been observing you at the company for a long time. You have great ideas and capabilities; it's just that you've been weighed down by family matters before. If you're willing, I can offer you more opportunities to fully showcase your talents at work."
Chen Xiao was taken aback; she hadn't expected Wang Qiang to hold such a high opinion of her. She had always thought he viewed her as just an ordinary employee and never imagined he would pay such close attention to her.
"I..." Chen Xiao opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.
"There's no rush to answer me; take your time to think it over," Wang Qiang said as he pulled the car over to the side of the road. "It's getting late; let me take you home."
"Thank you, Mr. Wang..." Chen Xiao nodded gratefully, watching Wang Qiang's car drive away, her heart filled with mixed emotions. Wang Qiang's words were like a beam of light in the darkness, illuminating her gloomy heart.
Chen Xiao took a deep breath, feeling the ripples of Wang Qiang's words stirring within her. She lowered her head, looking at the sleeping child in her arms, and her gaze gradually became resolute. Yes, she could no longer drift aimlessly through life; for the sake of her child and herself, she needed to pull herself together.
The next day, Chen Xiao arrived at the company on time, but unlike before, there was a newfound determination and confidence in her eyes. As Wang Qiang passed by her desk, he deliberately stopped and nodded slightly at her.
"Chen Xiao, revise this proposal again," the department head said as he placed a document on Chen Xiao's desk, his tone tinged with impatience.
"Okay," Chen Xiao replied as she took the document. Instead of being submissive as usual, she began to review it seriously.
After work, Chen Xiao chose to stay late. She meticulously studied the company's products and market data, revising the proposal over and over again. One by one, her colleagues left the office, leaving only the sound of keyboard typing and the occasional ringing of phones in the empty space. Outside, night fell; the city lights began to twinkle, and traffic flowed steadily—this city remained vibrant.
A few days later, Chen Xiao submitted her revised proposal to the department head. He casually flipped through a few pages and displayed a look of surprise on his face. "Who helped you revise this proposal?"
"I did it myself," Chen Xiao answered calmly, confidence shining in her eyes.
The head raised his gaze and scrutinized Chen Xiao as if he were seeing her for the first time. "Not bad; your ideas are clear, your logic is sound, and it's quite creative." He nodded appreciatively and added, "Keep up the good work."
From that point on, Chen Xiao seemed like a different person. She exhibited remarkable efficiency and creativity at work; not only did she excel in her own tasks, but she also proactively assisted colleagues in solving problems. Those who had previously held biases against her had no choice but to acknowledge her abilities and began to see her in a new light.
After work, when Chen Xiao returned home, Dong Yifan was lying on the sofa playing on his phone. Without looking up, he said casually, "You're back."
"Mm," Chen Xiao replied lightly as she walked into the room to start organizing the child's belongings.
"Why have you been coming home so late lately? Is the company very busy?" Dong Yifan finally lifted his head to look at Chen Xiao's busy figure, his tone carrying a hint of dissatisfaction.
"Yes, there's a new project at work that requires overtime," Chen Xiao explained without hiding anything as she cradled the child gently.
"What project? I haven't heard you mention it," Dong Yifan sat up straight with a hint of confusion on his face.
"A promotion plan for a new product," Chen Xiao simply explained, unwilling to discuss work matters further.
"Oh," Dong Yifan replied, then fell silent, lowering his head to continue playing on his phone.
Seeing Dong Yifan's indifferent demeanor, Chen Xiao felt a pang of bitterness. Once, he had been so gentle and caring, attentive to everything about her, but now, all that remained between them was silence and indifference.
"Dong Yifan, let's get a divorce." Chen Xiao took a deep breath and finally uttered those words.
Dong Yifan's phone fell to the ground with a loud thud. He abruptly looked up at Chen Xiao in disbelief. "What did you say?"
"I said, let's get a divorce," Chen Xiao repeated firmly, without a hint of hesitation.
"Divorce?" Dong Yifan's expression shifted from shock to panic. "Xiao Xiao, don't joke around. Did I do something wrong recently that upset you? Just tell me what it is, and I'll change. Please don't say divorce."
Chen Xiao remained silent, simply looking at Dong Yifan with an expression devoid of any emotion, as if she were staring at a stranger. This gaze pierced Dong Yifan's heart. He jumped up from the sofa and walked over to her, trying to grasp her hand. "Xiao Xiao, we've only been married for three years, and the child is still so young. How can you just say we should get a divorce?"
Chen Xiao stepped back to avoid Dong Yifan's hand, her tone calm yet resolute. "This is not a joke; I've made my decision."
"Why? Why do you suddenly want a divorce?" Dong Yifan's voice trembled, filled with panic and helplessness. "Is it because I haven't found a job recently and have made things difficult for you? I promise I'll find work soon; just give me a little more time, okay?"
