The classroom fell silent in an instant, all eyes focused on Zhang Sen.
Zhang Sen remained composed, not even lifting his head.
"Lin Wei, you really are something else," Xue Yang said as he walked down from the podium, a wicked smile on his face as he stared at me maliciously.
"You flirt with me while being involved with Zhang Sen. What kind of person do you think you are?"
Zhang Sen slowly stood up, positioning himself in front of me.
"Xue Yang, that's enough." His voice was not loud, but it was clear enough for everyone to hear.
"Spreading rumors can have legal consequences. Do you dare to repeat what you just said in front of the teacher and principal? Let's confront each other in court."
Xue Yang was taken aback, clearly not expecting Zhang Sen—who usually buried himself in his studies—to remain so calm under pressure.
"You want me to say it, so I will. Why should I..." Xue Yang's voice began to falter.
He tried to regain his usual dominance: "You two are just putting on a show!"
"A show? How about I tell you a story instead?"
Zhang Sen scoffed coldly, his gaze sharp as he pierced through Xue Yang without mercy.
"You've treated people as pawns from the very beginning, trying to control others to achieve your own goals."
The classroom was dead silent; everyone widened their eyes, waiting for Xue Yang's reaction.
"But you've forgotten that pawns can fight back."
"Shut up!" Xue Yang gritted his teeth, his voice cracking with anger. "You will regret this sooner or later."
"The only one who will regret it is you," Zhang Sen replied calmly before turning to look at me, his expression gentle.
"Am I right?"
He was waiting for my response.
Of course. I smiled as well.
What goes around comes around. I nodded, "That's right."
Xue Yang left in a huff. As the excitement faded, I once again stealthily clutched my notebook and moved closer to Zhang Sen.
I couldn't help but ask him, "So... did you already know why I approached you?"
"Yeah." Zhang Sen took a sip of water and smirked, "I also know that you're not a bad kid."
"Then why didn't you expose me?" I looked up at him and tapped his cheek.
"Because I love you." Zhang Sen took my hand and drew a heart in my palm.
"A long time ago."
During the lunch break, Zhang Sen and I walked side by side on the playground.
The sun was shining brightly, and the campus was filled with a rare tranquility.
"Do you know how popular you are at school?" I said half-jokingly.
"I've heard so many girls secretly say they like you. I guess even some teachers might..."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Sen's expression changed slightly after a moment of contemplation, and his brows furrowed.
"I don't like those words." His tone was cold as he suddenly stopped walking.
I scratched my head and said, "I mean, it's a good thing that you're popular."
Zhang Sen took a long, deep breath and asked, "If others like me, would you be happy?"
I was momentarily stunned.
Not happy.
I wasn't happy that others liked Zhang Sen.
Suddenly, I felt a sense of crisis looming.
The last class before lunch was Physical Education.
I chose to stay in the classroom to rest because I was uncomfortable due to my period.
All the other students went to the playground, and I lay alone on my desk, closing my eyes to relax.
Suddenly, I heard a whispering sound outside the window.
I opened my eyes and saw Zhang Sen and Li Xiaoxiao standing on the other side of the teaching building, seemingly discussing something.
Oh no, could it be a confession?
I held my stomach and quietly left the classroom, hiding around the corner to eavesdrop.
