"Hey?"
A mere ordinary Special Forces Soldier, curled up in a suit of armor, had actually broken through the defense of her seven blades. This truly surprised and angered the Zombie Queen.
To be breached by a mere Earthling, what use was this Chaos Power?
"Forget it, I'll handle this myself." The Zombie Queen turned her head and continued to grip the Blue Face Hero's neck tightly, not even wanting to glance at this clown—Earthling child, ha, with their physical condition, they definitely couldn't withstand even one of her strikes.
Just as the Fierce Eagle's sword tip pressed against her chaotic Force Field, the Zombie Queen swiftly struck back with an elbow aimed at the Fierce Eagle's chest armor!
"Clang!"
"Huh?"
The Zombie Queen seemed to sense something was off; she glanced back and found that her elbow hadn't hit the Fierce Eagle's chest armor but rather his Particle Shield.
What surprised everyone even more was that the Fierce Eagle had not been knocked back at all; he, an Earthling, had caught it and was even suppressing the Zombie Queen with the help of his Thruster.
"Ah?!" Both the Blue Face Hero and Zombie King felt a tremendous shock.
"It’s impossible... Virgil has both soul and Chaos Power enhancements; her casual strike should weigh at least thirteen hundred pounds!"
The Zombie King floated in the sky, watching as the Fierce Eagle took advantage of the moment to grip the battle sword's hilt and cut a massive gash in the Zombie Queen's chaotic Force Field.
"He shouldn’t be some superhuman, yet his strength is astonishing! This force must have surpassed known human physical limits."
"Sizzle—"
The Fierce Eagle dragged his battle sword along the scar left by the Blue Face Hero, and in an instant, the Zombie Queen felt as if her clothes were being torn apart, a cold wind filled with snowflakes rushing in.
"You all really are risking your lives to deal with me." The Zombie Queen released her grip on the Blue Face Hero's neck and turned to pounce on the diving Fierce Eagle.
After this encounter, the Zombie Queen could no longer underestimate the Fierce Eagle. Faced with an attack from two and a corpse, she chose to target what she deemed the weakest one.
The Blue Face Hero had just been nearly choked unconscious and could only kneel on the ground, his eyes filled with black spots as he watched the Zombie Queen grab hold of the Fierce Eagle.
A claw slammed down onto the Fierce Eagle's head armor, creating sparks as it scraped against his armor. The Fierce Eagle felt dizzy but endured the excruciating pain in his head, extending his arm to block the Zombie Queen's next strike.
Once again, there was astonishment; the Fierce Eagle had actually blocked it! The Zombie Queen's claws couldn't push down!
Seizing the opportunity, the Fierce Eagle executed a spinning kick directly to the Zombie Queen's face while igniting his Thruster, causing her to take two kicks and a mouthful of ash.
After creating some distance, the Fierce Eagle raised his arm-mounted magnetic cannon and aimed at the gap he had carved in her chaotic Force Field before firing.
"Boom!"
The shell bounced around inside the Zombie Queen's Force Field like a bouncy ball before finally landing at her feet and exploding. Then everyone saw countless blue bolts of lightning flashing within the obscured Force Field like numerous sharp scalpels cutting into the Zombie Queen's body.
"Ugh—" The Zombie Queen absolutely did not expect that the shell fired by the Fierce Eagle was originally meant for high-mobility high-defense armor weapons; this projectile called "Thunder Blossom," which could only be launched from Fierce Eagle Armor, effectively reduced both speed and defense of its target upon impact, achieving a one-hit kill effect.
The Fierce Eagle had merely fired this shot with a mindset of giving it a try.
"Although these bolts have mostly been absorbed by her chaotic Force Field, Xiaotian’s attack has significantly weakened Zombie Queen’s melee capabilities for ten minutes." The Blue Face Hero was now able to stand up; he immediately adjusted his tactics as his Tianchuang Gloves began to charge—since her melee capabilities were weakened, it was time to take her down close up!
However, the Zombie King had already made his move—this was an excellent opportunity for counterattacking against the Zombie Queen; she must not be allowed to catch her breath!
"Boom!"
A bolt of Black Lightning struck down, crashing the Zombie Queen directly into a residential building. After a series of loud crashes, the house collapsed into rubble, while the Zombie King continued relentlessly, pushing the Zombie Queen far beyond a dozen buildings.
"Uh..." Blue Face Hero watched as the Zombie Queen was pushed away at such speed, his expression turning dark. "Are we not considering teaming up or something..."
Blue Face Hero exchanged glances with Fierce Eagle in the air and flew along the path opened by Black Lightning.
Eastern City
"Hurry, faster!" Liang Muqi could only run a step and then stop, after all, he had taken enhanced elemental agents, giving him four to five times the physical capacity of an average person. Watching the refugees behind him struggling to keep up, he felt helpless.
But this was life—human life.
"Just hold on a little longer; after we turn this corner, we'll reach the nearest evacuation point. Trust me!" Liang Muqi pointed to the road ahead, blocked by abandoned vehicles, hoping to instill a bit more confidence in everyone to survive.
"Mr. Liang..."
Liang Muqi turned around to see a middle-aged woman kneeling in front of him with a thud, carrying her elderly family member on her back.
"Don't do this! Get up! We're almost there!" Liang Muqi hurried back to help the woman up.
"I... can't run anymore; please take care of my elderly family member..." she said before her eyes rolled back, foam forming at her mouth as she fainted.
Seeing that the crowd had stopped moving ahead, they had no choice but to halt as well. Qin Weishan and Jiao An simultaneously checked their watches.
"Seven minutes."
Jiao An wiped away a cold sweat.
They had just sprinted four kilometers at full speed, and seeing the refugees in such dire straits made it clear that without support, they would likely fail their mission.
"Jiao An, I'm almost there! No need to run; just hold on!"
Xu Yicheng pressed the accelerator to the floor, while Aibo was still sprinting ahead of him, clearing a path through the abandoned vehicles for Xu Yicheng.
Qin Weishan and Jiao An looked at their shared location information and confirmed their position before stretching their necks to look around the left corner.
"Boom!"
The already tense crowd was startled by a loud explosion from behind them. Ming Juan, hiding at the back of the crowd, turned around simultaneously with everyone else and saw a bolt of Black Lightning burst out from a distant house before crashing down. Then came another flash of white light that sent a figure soaring into the sky.
That figure stabilized itself against the impact of the white light and forcefully pushed away the shockwave with its hands.
"Ah..."
Ming Juan's Soul-Gazing Eye on her forehead lit up again. Tears began to surge in her trembling eyes.
"Miao... you're still alive..."
Why did I have to encounter your arrival at this most desperate moment?
Beside her, an older man wiped away beads of sweat from his forehead and asked Ming Juan, "Little girl, what are you mumbling about? Do you know him?"
To the man's surprise, Ming Juan nodded.
“……”
The uncle felt that the child might be overly nervous.
“Shall we go?”
Ming Juan lowered his head, silently biting his lip. He knew it was him, yet he still refused to believe his eyes.
Time arranged their meeting and also their separation. So why should they let Time dictate their reunion again?
He had once been the dawn that burned brightly in his life.
“Bang!” “Bang!”
The sound of collisions came one after another from the front. Everyone except Ming Juan turned back and saw a Stone Giant clearing the vehicles blocking the road, followed closely by a speeding bus.
The refugees had no idea what this was and retreated in fear.
“Don’t be afraid! Don’t be afraid! This is our ally, our comrade!” Qin Weishan shouted at the top of his lungs. His voice didn’t even need a loudspeaker.
But the refugees didn’t dare to look at Aibo, pushing back in panic.
“Don’t be scared! Trust us!” Jiao An shouted, both anxious and angry.
Xu Yicheng slammed the steering wheel, pressing the brakes hard, causing the bus to skid at a thirty-degree angle in front of the crowd, nearly tipping over. Xu Yicheng let out a long sigh and opened the door.
Seeing that he had frightened the humans, Aibo could only quietly retreat into a nearby corner, letting out a soft sigh.
“Everyone!” Liang Muqi shouted loudly.
Instantly, the entire crowd fell silent.
“Five minutes!” Liang Muqi pointed to the door behind him.
It seemed people were more willing to believe Liang Muqi; they crowded toward the open bus doors.
Jiao An could only purse her lips; such feelings had to be set aside for now. What she and Qin Weishan cared about most was Time.
The refugees cooperated well, avoiding any stampede situation, and boarded the bus at an astonishing speed, all getting on in about thirty seconds.
Liang Muqi helped an elderly person while carrying an unconscious woman on his back. He glanced at Qin Weishan and Jiao An standing behind him before stepping into the bus.
“Are we just letting him go?” Qin Weishan asked.
“We have no choice,” Jiao An shook her head, “Let’s put old grudges aside for now.”
The bus's wheels screeched against the ground under Xu Yicheng's control as it sped toward the highway, with Aibo already clearing the way for him. The two watched as the bus turned into a hopeful intersection.
Liang Muqi stood in the aisle of the bus, pointing at an armored vehicle blocking the road ahead, saying, “We’ve arrived!”
Xu Yicheng glanced at Liang Muqi but didn’t respond to him. As two of the most renowned top researchers in the country, Xu Yicheng certainly knew of his reputation and past actions; because of this, he didn’t want to talk to him.
Seeing that there were no obstacles ahead, Aibo quickly turned to lean against one side to avoid being fired upon by soldiers. Countless red dots from military weapons converged on Aibo, who could only helplessly lower his iron anchor as a sign of non-aggression toward them.
The bus carried a full load of cheers and hope before making a sudden stop in front of the military line.
The soldiers immediately surrounded the bus, with Xu Yicheng leading the way out, using his social prominence to dispel any doubts among the soldiers regarding the refugees.
"First, take them away. Let someone else explain the situation to you," Xu Yicheng pointed to the vehicle.
"But... Dr. Xu, our last transport plane has already taken off," the soldier explained.
"What?!" Xu Yicheng was taken aback. Wasn't that a waste of effort?
The refugees behind him began to shout in anger. Xu Yicheng gestured for them to calm down and continued to ask the soldier for details.
"We shouldn't have arrived too late, right?" Xu Yicheng asked.
"Yes... but that was the estimated time, meaning we could have taken off earlier. Also, all the rescue transport planes are fully loaded, and there's no need to wait any longer. Half an hour ago, the higher-ups ordered the last batch of rescue teams to evacuate with priority," the soldier could only explain.
"Damn it!" Xu Yicheng stomped his foot and shouted, "Don't you know there are still people in the city who haven't evacuated?!"
"It's no use getting angry now, Xu Yicheng. We need to find a way," Liang Muqi said, having somehow acquired a mask and sunglasses, which he put on.
In truth, Liang Muqi felt very uneasy; if Xu Yicheng wanted to expose himself, he just needed to say something. But for the sake of the refugees and the guilt that had tormented him for three years, he decided to step up.
Xu Yicheng looked at the soldier and then at Liang Muqi's eyes behind the sunglasses. He wasn't sure if he should feel pity for a sinner burdened with the label of traitor.
"He’s the driver... I think we can drive away as long as you’re willing to let us go," Xu Yicheng took a deep breath and said.
"No problem, Dr. Xu." A non-commissioned officer lifted the cover and stepped out of the command vehicle. "I will dispatch five light laser cannon vehicles to cover your evacuation."
"Ha." Xu Yicheng felt much more at ease. "Thank you so much."
All the refugees immediately returned to the vehicle one after another. The fluctuating emotions were not applicable to Liang Muqi at all. Watching the rescued refugees sitting in their seats, covering their faces and crying while hugging each other, he felt like a mother who could never relax her worries, tightly furrowing his brow.
"Hey." Xu Yicheng called out to Liang Muqi as he sat in the driver's seat.
"Aren't you going to say thank you?" Xu Yicheng didn't even turn around.
Liang Muqi slightly curled his lips. "Thanks."
"You seem quite worried; are you thinking about how you'll be captured again?" Xu Yicheng mocked.
"I've thought it through long ago; it's not like you," Liang Muqi replied.
"Didn't you notice that we're missing a girl?"
Xu Yicheng's whole body jolted at that realization.
