The so-called Reflective Mirror refers to two opposing mirrors that reflect each other, creating an infinitely looping image.
It is said that at midnight, if you place a red candle at the midpoint of the Reflective Mirror and count the reflections in the mirror by candlelight, if you reach the thirteenth reflection, a shadow from within the mirror will crawl out and replace your real self.
The true self will then be trapped inside the mirror, becoming a reflection…
Although I was quite intrigued by this urban legend, I didn’t have a suitable mirror at home. On a whim, I decided to use two mirrors I had on hand: a wall-mounted mirror and a hand mirror, attempting to create the effect of a Reflective Mirror.
Out of curiosity, but lacking the courage to follow the legend's process exactly, I changed the time from midnight to noon when it was bright outside. I chose to conduct this experiment during the day with a playful mindset, even skipping the step of lighting the candle.
In practice, perhaps due to the smaller surface area of the hand mirror, counting to thirteen reflections turned out to be more difficult than I had imagined. After several attempts, reaching seven or eight felt like my limit.
Just as I was about to give up due to my inability to proceed smoothly, I unexpectedly discovered a trick—by slightly tilting the angle of the mirrors, I could see more reflections behind.
This accidental discovery finally allowed me to continue counting successfully.
After surpassing five reflections, the images in the mirror became mostly gray and blurry, making it increasingly difficult to discern what was being reflected. Only the colorful border of the hand mirror remained clearly visible, so I counted the reflections based on its outline.
Looking back now, if it were the candlelight reflecting instead, it would likely have been clearer and easier to count; thus, lighting a candle seems intended for confirming the images.
Finally, when I reached the thirteenth reflection, I unexpectedly saw my face clearly appearing in the depths of that thirteenth mirror and froze for a moment.
However, when I focused again and looked closely, the reflection deep within the mirror was still just a vague gray blur; it was impossible for it to show a clear image.
...Am I seeing things?
After waiting for a while, nothing strange happened, and no unusual sights appeared in the mirror.
...Forget it, this is probably just what so-called urban legends are about!
I thought this aimlessly in my mind and decided not to dwell on it any longer.

Late that night, while I was deep in sleep, I was suddenly awakened by a strange sound.
That sound... I really didn't know how to describe it. It felt like the dragging of a heavy object across gravel, or like shoes walking on broken tiles, making a scraping noise—intermittent and continuous.
"What is my neighbor doing at this hour..." This was the first thought that crossed my mind whenever I was startled awake by an unknown noise in the middle of the night.
Since the sound wasn't constant, I assumed it would soon come to an end.
However, every time the noise paused for a moment, just when I thought I could finally drift back to sleep, that strange sound would start up again, disturbing my dreams.
The repeated interruptions made me increasingly irritated, and finally, unable to tolerate it any longer, I decided to leave the warmth of my bed and investigate the source of the noise...
