The first time Lin Wan saw Chen Wu was during the summer vacation of her sophomore year.
That day, she had just come out of the library and was riding her bike home. As she passed by a basketball court, she noticed a boy. He was wearing a white T-shirt and black athletic shorts, playing basketball with a few others. He was tall, with dark skin, and his shirt was soaked with sweat, clinging to his body and outlining his perfect physique.
Lin Wan couldn't help but glance at him a couple more times. She realized that he looked really handsome while playing. From that day on, she often went to that basketball court, pretending to run into him. Occasionally, she would muster up the courage to say a few words to him. He didn't talk much and always remained silent, but he would seriously answer her questions every time.
Gradually, she learned his name. Chen Wu—what a lovely name. She began to pay attention to him, wanting to know everything about him. She found out he was the captain of the basketball team, that he was good at studying, well-liked by others, and had many girls who liked him. She also knew that he was someone she admired from afar.
But she couldn't control her feelings. She would secretly watch his games and keep his pictures in her heart. She even fantasized about whether they could develop a romantic story together. But fantasies are just fantasies. He never knew of her existence. He never knew that there was a girl who had been silently watching him.
Lin Wan thought she was hiding her feelings well until that class reunion. When Song Mei revealed it, she suddenly realized that her thoughts had long been written all over her face. She didn't know what Chen Wu thought about it, but her heart had already completely fallen.
That night, she couldn't sleep. Lying in bed, all she could see were his shadows—his smile, his gaze, his sweat—everything about him. She couldn't help but think how wonderful it would be if they could be together. But she also knew that it was just a dream after all.

As the new semester began, she encountered Chen Wu again. He was still the same as before, unchanged. Yet her heart could no longer be calm. She started to intentionally and unintentionally inquire about him. She learned that he had formed a racing team with a few friends and often practiced at the racetrack. She knew he had recently received a scholarship, becoming the center of attention in the school. She also knew that he had a good relationship with a girl named Li Li, good enough to raise suspicions.
Her heart twisted into a knot. She didn't know what to do. Until one day, she met Zhou Wen. Zhou Wen was her deskmate and also her best friend. She confided her deepest secret to Zhou Wen. Zhou Wen was extremely surprised. "You like Chen Wu?" she exclaimed, her eyes wide open. Lin Wan nodded with a flushed face.
"Oh my gosh, you're really something!" Zhou Wen marveled, "You really know how to keep it in!" Lin Wan bit her lip, unsure of how to explain. "So what are you planning to do?" Zhou Wen asked, "Are you just going to keep this crush to yourself?"
Lin Wan hesitated. She didn't want to keep this crush hidden; she wanted him to know her feelings. But she was scared. She feared being rejected by him and being laughed at for overestimating herself. She was even more afraid that they wouldn't even be able to remain friends.
"I think you should tell him," Zhou Wen encouraged her, "What if he likes you too?" Lin Wan's heart raced. What if he liked her too?
Once the thought emerged, it could no longer be suppressed. She decided to confess her feelings. She arranged to meet Chen Wu and shared her thoughts with him. She remembered that he was silent for a long time that day. Long enough for her to think he was scared. Just when she was about to give up, he spoke up. He said, "Sure."
She was stunned, unable to believe her ears. He said, sure. Does that mean he agreed? "You... you agree?" she stammered. He looked at her, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Mm," he replied softly.
At that moment, Lin Wan's heart was filled with immense joy. She wanted nothing more than to throw herself into his arms. But she held back. She didn't want to scare him. They slowly began dating. He was as gentle and considerate as she had imagined, making her feel unprecedented happiness. She thought they would continue to be this happy forever.
But unexpectedly... Lin Wan sighed, closed her eyes, and stopped thinking about those messy things. Since he had become her husband, all she needed to do was cherish him well. As for everything else, she would leave it to fate.
