The Fourth Prince looked at Li Cheng before him, a hint of appreciation flashing in his eyes.
"Grand Preceptor, please take a seat."
Li Cheng sat down beside me, and we exchanged smiles, our mutual understanding evident without words.
"You performed very well just now," I said softly.
"Those gifts were exquisite," Li Cheng replied quietly. "It was all your doing."
"I merely provided the ideas; the actual implementation was up to you," I smiled.
The carefully selected gifts were all tailored to the Fourth Prince's preferences. The precious medicinal herbs were exactly what he needed most. He was a well-rounded individual, knowledgeable in both medicine and literature. The books we chose were rare editions that the Fourth Prince had long desired. I was confident he would appreciate our gifts.
"The look in the Fourth Prince's eyes just now said it all."
"Our plan has already taken its first step," I said softly.
Li Cheng nodded slightly, a glimmer of confidence in his eyes.
"As long as we work together, we will surely succeed."
At the Royal Hunting Ground, the sun shone brightly, and the sky was clear. The Fourth Prince and Li Cheng rode side by side across the hunting grounds. The Fourth Prince drew his bow confidently.
"Grand Preceptor, what do you think of this hunting ground?"
Li Cheng respectfully replied, "Your Highness, the grass is lush, the woods are dense, and there is plenty of game."
"It truly is a good place," the Fourth Prince smiled.
The Fourth Prince shot an arrow, which carried a deeper meaning.
"Grand Preceptor, we must cooperate well during tomorrow's autumn hunt," he said.
"With the Grand Preceptor here, I am confident of victory," the Fourth Prince replied.
Li Cheng responded, "I am willing to serve Your Highness."
The Fourth Prince laughed heartily, feeling pleased.
Dismounting, the Fourth Prince said again, "I will rely on you for tomorrow's hunt, Grand Preceptor."
Li Cheng nodded and said, "I will not let Your Highness down."
As the horn sounded, the autumn hunt officially began.
Li Cheng and I followed behind the Fourth Prince, searching for prey.
A stag appeared in our line of sight.
The Fourth Prince drew his bow and prepared to shoot.
Li Cheng scanned the surroundings to ensure there was no danger.
"Your Highness, you may release it," Li Cheng said calmly.
As soon as the Fourth Prince released the arrow, it struck the stag's vital spot.
Cheers erupted in the hunting ground.
A proud smile appeared on the Fourth Prince's face.
"Grand Preceptor, you truly are my right-hand man."
On a forest path where the Emperor, Second Prince, and Fourth Prince rode together, an atmosphere of excitement enveloped everyone during the hunt.
Suddenly, a piercing whinny broke the tranquility of the woods.
The Emperor's steed reared up suddenly, throwing him to the ground.
The Fourth Prince shouted in panic, "Father!"
Surrounding guards and attendants rushed over.
The Emperor lay on the ground, his face pale and his leg wounded by an arrow.
The Fourth Prince anxiously asked, "Father, how are you?" His voice trembled, revealing his concern for the Emperor's safety. The Emperor had been unexpectedly injured in the Royal Hunting Ground, with an arrow lodged in his leg. This incident quickly stirred up a storm within the palace. The Emperor was urgently taken back to the tent for treatment.
The Empress and Consort Xian were arguing fiercely inside his tent.
"How could this happen out of nowhere?"
"Sister, what are you saying..."
Consort Xian's sharp voice interrupted the Empress: "Shut up! If anything happens to His Majesty, I will never let you off the hook!"
The Empress turned pale: "What do you mean? Are you accusing me of this?"
Consort Xian snorted coldly: "Who knows if you deliberately set this up to clear obstacles for your son?"
