He adjusted his tie and straightened his clothes, just about to lay down the law with Rao Jie when suddenly his phone chimed with a notification. It was a video call... Wu Rong grabbed his phone while shooting a glare at Rao Jie.
Rao Jie dared not look up, instead stealing glances at Wu Rong like a kitten caught knocking something over, ears drooping, tail curled, and body hunched, waiting for reprimand from its owner.
Wu Rong checked the phone and twitched his mouth. Coldly, he said in Rao Jie’s direction, “It’s Wu Xin.”
“Brother! You’re actually going to kick Rao Jie out! I heard Wei Qian say how miserable Rao Jie is already. Do you even have any humanity left?”
As soon as Wu Rong connected the video call, Wu Xin’s voice blasted into his ears painfully.
“It should be the middle of the night over there. Yelling like that, aren’t you afraid of getting reported?” Wu Rong rubbed his ear, looking thoroughly annoyed.
Wu Xin had thought they could all live together happily and was thrilled until she was hit with this thunderbolt realization that she had been deceived by both of them.
“Brother! You’re inhuman! I’m so angry, extremely angry!” Wu Xin exclaimed, her cheeks puffed up in indignation.
Feeling it wasn’t enough, she added, “Not even a single penny of pocket money can soothe me!”
Then she threatened, “Don’t blame me for turning against you. I’ll tell our parents right away. If you make my life miserable, I won’t let you off easy either. Let’s just tear each other apart as siblings!”
Wu Rong’s mouth stopped twitching; now his brain felt like it was short-circuiting. He tossed the phone to the dumbfounded Rao Jie standing beside him. “You talk to her.” He leaned against the door frame and rolled his eyes.
Rao Jie quickly adjusted the phone. Wu Xin had already started to blow up, thinking her brother was about to end the call!
But when she looked again, it was Rao Jie on the screen.
Wu Xin’s words caught in her throat. “Jie Jie, you’re still there!”
Something felt off to Wu Xin; this was her brother's phone—when did he let someone else touch it?
Rao Jie awkwardly greeted Wu Xin and offered some comforting words before nervously glancing at Wu Rong beside her. However, at that moment, Wu Rong was out of view on the screen, leaving only Rao Jie looking obediently toward him as if waiting for instructions.
To Wu Xin, this scene felt inexplicably strange.
“Professor Wu,” she said cautiously, “I hope you haven’t changed your mind about your decision just now!”
Wu Xin perked up her ears to listen. What decision?
Wu Rong said impatiently, "What’s wrong? Do you want to move out?"
Rao Jie instinctively shook her head.
Seeing Rao Jie react like a little squirrel made Wu Rong want to laugh, but he held back and casually hummed in response.
Rao Jie immediately brightened up with a smile.
This scene really caught Wu Xin off guard.
When Rao Jie turned back, she saw Wu Xin looking at them with the expression of someone encountering something novel.
"Wu Xin, your brother has already agreed to let me stay here long-term; it was just decided. Oh, and my dad sent me some money, so I don’t have to worry about living expenses anymore. I haven’t told Wei Qian yet; I’ll let her know later. I’m going to continue bothering you in your room until the end of my graduate entrance exams."
Wu Xin blinked and said somewhat absentmindedly, "Oh, that’s good, that’s good."
It was strange—was it that Rao Jie hadn’t realized it, or had she been led astray by her brother?
She remembered that Rao Jie initially had money but didn’t want to live with her older brother.
How did it come to this?
Forget it; since Rao Jie is always a bit slow on the uptake, she wouldn’t remind her for now. Maybe she would forget about it herself.
